You say you are using good quality discs. What are they? What speed are you burning at? What is the rated speed of the disc? Is it "jerky" on the computer or a stand alone player? What program did you use to burn with? Give us detail, as much as possible.

hi Dolphin 2 thank you very much in trying to solve this proplem, ok here goes the disc are 120min phillips,4.7gb the speed of the disc i have are (1)1-4 speed and the other (2)12x certified. i burn them at a speed of or sometimes max-8x-4x as for the jerky movements its ok on the computer only when i have it on disk it plays up. just out of interest the speed on the blank disk say 12x is that the speed you should record at?? also lord of the rings, two towers is in 3 files, i have a program called movie joiner which joins the files together and i have just bought a new multi disc recorder (dvd/cd-r)it came with Nero express is that a good program?? so there you are dolphin2 i hope i have helped you with a bit more info, look forward to your reply cphicks

On a scale of 1 to 4, with 4 being the best, Phillips would rate a 2. With that in mind, I would say your problems are with the discs.

Also, the burn speed should be no faster than 1/2 the rated speed of the disc. For example, if you have a disc rated at 8X, then burn no faster than 4X. The only exception to this would be if you have top quality discs and your burner firmware is up-to-date.

I am not familiar with Movie Joiner, so I can not comment. I use a program called Easy Video Joiner.

http://www.doeasier.org/joiner/

What is the make/model number of your new recorder and the version of Nero they gave you?

I agree with dolphin2,, you need to use better media (TY's,Verbs)
and slow your speed down try 4x.

Are the jerky spots at the end of the movie????

@cphicks If you look on the Nero disc, there will be a number something like 6.6.0.18 That is the version number I would like to know.

Also, on the box of the writer, there should be a model number. Please post that.

@daman1 He already said he's using Phillips' discs. Not the best as I pointed out.

morning dolphin2and domain1 well mate all i can say about Nero is its called Nero express its on a cd that has 3 to 4 other programs, i tried looking inside the files byt all it says is Nero express. the serial no of the writer is GSA-4167B thats on the out side of the box.
the media im using is sometimes DVD SANTA to encode and put on disk or roxio 7 to copy to disk not sure what is the best way to do these things have a couple of programs called VSO DivXtoDVD and film machine it just seems funny that when i started d/loading it was fine and the last 2 months have been crap, at first i thought it was the writer overheating or its old, ive had it over 3 months or so, and may i ask you what disk do you recommend and i hope i can get them in england thanks guys cphicks

The discs I recommend are Taiyo Yuden and Verbatim.

If you install Nero, be sure to completely remove Roxio as they will conflict and cause you more problems.

Let's take it one step at a time.

First, did you play the downloaded files to insure they are OK?

Next, join them and play the file. Make sure it doesn't skip.

Encode it, then play. Note if it skips.

Burn it and watch. See if it skips.

These steps will tell us where the problem begins. Then we can go from there to correct it.

I've never used any of the few free ones, so I can't really recommend one.

Try ConvertXtoDVD. See if that gives you any better results. There are a bunch of others, such as WinAVI, Cucusoft, etc.

Go to the Software tab, close to the top of the page. Then search for encoders or video convertors. Read the discriptions and see what will work for you.

What is the problem? I thought you said you just got a new burner?

If you do need one, I recommend the BenQ DW 1650. It's the best for the money!

hi dolphin 2
well believe it or not, there seems to be something wrong, im not sure it maybe my computer is or rather has not got the right specs for the device but what is happening, when it is connected i turn the pc on and when all the icons are on the screen about 10 seconds after the pc cuts out, same with when i put disk in it,now ive checked the bios settings and it nows the device is there, but for some strange reason it cuts the pc out, i have even tried to disconnect the other drive i have and just use the multi-drive i have (dvd-cd)so im not sure what to do,
so a recap of whats happening is

i connected the device, turn pc on within 20-30 sec pc cuts out, when i mean cuts out the computer still runs but theres no picture and you cant do anything with the keyboard or mouse, so i have disconnected it and pc runs ok
any ideas mate,, thanks again chris

Check the jumper settings for the DVD drives. Use Master and Slave.
Do NOT use CS (Cable Select). I had the same problem with another friend and that was his problem. Make sure you have the ribbon cable connected properly. That is another item that will cause problems.

If this is just the new drive doing this, I would suspect a bad drive. Return/Exchange it.
