Hello!

I have this problem for some time now. My TSSTCorp TS-L532U DVD-RW DL burner seems to have some problems. It is installed in my laptop Acer 3613 WLMi.

First of all it doesn't recognize the medias that I put in :( I tried SONY DVD+R, TDK DVD-R, TDK CD-R and nothing. From time to time it sees it but then I have a problem with burning :(
It just fails.

I changed my orginal firmware to TU02 and drive is now recognized as Toshiba SDR6472U.

Can anyone tell me what is going on with it?? It was fine since I bought it, I could burn either CDs, DVD + and - Rs.

HELP!

how long have you had this burner? from your description, it sounds like your drive is dying/dead. is it still under warranty?

edit: also, did these problems arise after the fw change, or is that why you changed fw?

That's why I changed FW. I have my laptop since January this year.

What are other signs of dying burner??

Is making very weird noises and being quite load a sign??

There could be lots of reasons for it. One firmware update needed (most likely). Trying unistalling and reinstalling the drive. Also could be spyware/adware/mulware problems. And last but not least dump those TDK discs (use good quilty media Verbatim Advanced Azo, Maxell made in Japan or Taiyo Yuden).

this problem was discussed here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/338095 and here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/338650 - those will detail the firmware etc changed so far.

@Qbazdz - let's pls keep the problem contained in this one thread until conclusion, no more spreading the problem over multiple threads thanks.....at the very least it puts ppl off helping you

Surely the burner should be covered by warranty, however if you goofed with the firmware then you may be out of luck with the warranty claim.
Why did you choose that particular firmware, if it was a toshiba then my source shows the choice of two

The only thing I could find on TSST is here

If you are using Nero to burn then we can take a look at your Nero log file, found here

Nero 6 history log location: Program Files>Ahead>Nero>NeroHistory.txt

Nero 7 history log location: Program Files>Nero>Nero 7>Core>NeroHistory.txt

A log file will tell us a lot more.

Hi!

Could You have a look into my log and tell me possible causes of burning error??

Is it the amount memory, or something different??
Is it possible then for me to burn this DVD, even though having only 256 MB??

THANKS!!!

Most people here agree that 512mb is the least ammount of RAM necessary to consistently burn DVD's. It can be done with only 256mb if you shut down everything else running on your computer, but it definately is not advised if you are serious about burning DVD's. Disconnect your internet connection, close any antivirus and antispyware programs running in the background and do not use your computer while it is burning.

Also, try burning slower. I would recommend 4x as this speed seems to be optimum for successful burning. Burning slower than 4x can cause problems just like burning too fast can.

These are not the greatest of DVD media. Others have had problems with this particular brand (TDK?). Here is a link:http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/253003

Your burner doesn't have a write strategy for this brand of DVD's. Since you have the latest firmware for your burner, the only solution is to try another brand of media. I have had great luck with Verbatim DVD's, Taiyo Yuden,or Sony/Maxell/Fuji if made in Japan. You might want to give them a try.

Ok. As U advised I bought some decent media - some Verbatim DVD+R disks and couple of Verbatim CD-R.

I also did a small test.

Well. WHen I first inserted the disks it was fine. Everything readed, I didnt burn anything as I was on the battery and wanted to try at home :) well, I come back home and the drive doesnt recognize any media I insert, either blank or already burned.

Looks like my drive is f**ked :[
