IF you are frustrated like me and have spendt countless wasted hours and triedeverything including kicking and screaming at the computer and throwing your DVD discs in the rubbish and at the point of buying a new dVD burner then try this as a last resort. I look everything on many threads to find a solustion and this worked for me. Use as a very last resort.

I downloaded and installed the ForceASPI drivers and my DVD burner is happpily burning onto DVD.

Updating ASPI Drivers

Adaptec have developed ASPI check which allows you to check the ASPI Layer and the version installed. To download the utility click aspichk.exe for Windows NT4/95 only.

For Windows 98/NT4/ME/2000/XP users you will need the aspi_471a2.exe download which contains the ASPI Check Tools and also updated drivers. Please follow the install instructions at the bottom of the download page.

If the above downloads fail from Adaptec a nice utility called ForceApsi can be used, the name gives it away, basically this forces the Aspi Drivers onto the system overwriting any existing. Please note you should only use this download for testing purposes only. Download ForceAspi.

The best thing you can do is spread the word.

The reasons ForceASPI was created, and why you might want to use it:

* No ASPI Layer in Windows 2000 or XP
* Windows 9x and Windows ME ASPI Layer sucks
* Many CD Digital Audio rippers require a working ASPI layer
* Many DVD Rippers require a working ASPI layer
* Most CD-R wirting applications require a working ASPI layer

(I don't take any credit the guy below who generously gave it out deserves the dredit
* I have been applying this hack manually on my own systems and decided to automate the process and let everyone benefit
* Some people (such as the folks at Sony and Adobe) find that these drivers offer better compatibility than newer versions of Adaptec's ASPI layer drivers (such as v4.71.2).

Just remember if you are running an external drive ASPI does not apply for this type of drive. USB drives do not utilize it and it can in some instances cause problems.
