Thx to AD, I have backed up all of my favorite ps2 games with no coasters but still have 1 question. How does swap magic work? If I make a 1:1 backup with all of the data contained on the original disk, why doesn't it boot up without the use of swap magic. After reading hundreds of threads, I know AD is home of some of the brightest ps2 users, and I know someone can answer this question. What is on the swap magic disk that is not on a back-up of an original ps2 disk? Thank you for your insight.

There are certain sectors contained on the disc which your PC cannot read.
Unless you have one of those press burners that that big companies use to make exact duplicates of a game, there is no way. And those things cost in the tens of thousands. The reason being that games have "boot sectors" on them that cannot be copied by market burners. This is where a modchip or some other type of mod comes in. The mod fools the system into thinking that the game is an original so it boots.
