I'm trying to convert a wave sound file to an mp3 file to make an audio
cd. I need a good converting software. I tried the dbpoweramp, but it keeps saying that there is "no codex for that file". I was understanding
that the software was free, but they want me to purchase a powerpak inorder to convert my file. So,what other software is good to use.

you're taking the right step in using dBPowerAMP, its one of the best music converters. You need to download and install the LAME mp3 plugin from their codec-central web page. The mp3 codec that comes with dBPowerAMP is just a trial. But you should be able to download and install the LAME mp3 codec plugin, which is free, and have no trouble converting the wave to mp3. You can find the link to dBPowerAMP's website in my sig below...

For the best quality mp3s use EAC (exact audio copy) to rip your audio CDs and LAME to encode them. Follow this guide:

djscoop, thank you for informing me that I was on the right track. I appreciate the advice as I,am a newbie to all this. Now for another
stupid question. I went to the central web site as you told me to, however I could not find the Lame mp3 codex. I saw a lot of other
downloads, but not the one you suggested. Could it be the mp3 Lame CLI
file I need to download? A reply will be most appreciated.

Maybe I'm reading something wrong here, but you don't need to convert to mp3 if you are just making an "Audio CD". If you are wanting to make an "mp3 CD" that is a different story. Then you need to convert the wave files. Maybe a little more information is needed here? If you need the mp3 codec, you find it here.

good point digidave, my lazy eyes missed those two words audio cd. thats what I get for answering posts with a hangover. any burning app will create and audio CD from a wave file, so you don't need to convert them.

I apologize for not returning everyone replys and for not clarifying myself. I'm trying to copy soungs for a dvd movie to make a audio cd.
I'm able to copy the audio files using dvd audio extractor, but this app saves them as wave sounds.I was told that i had to convert wave sounds into an mp3 file then burn them as an audio cd using Nero which I have. I have download dbpoweramp, but as stated previously ican seem to find the Lame codec to continue the process.

So, you extracted the sound from a DVD. They come out as wave files. Just open Nero & add the files into the "to be burned" section. Nero will automatically convert them to what is needed for a CD. It's that simple. Now, if you want to save the files on your harddrive & space is an issue, then it would be wise to convert them to mp3. Otherwise it would give inferior sound on the CD. If you have the trial version of dbpoweramp. You should already have the Lame codec. You can check by going to My Computer>C: Drive>Program files>Illustrate>dbpoweramp>compression. There you should see something that says "Lame enc.dll"
