i have downloaded every codec i can find and still get this message.
error "The format is not supported for C:\Documents and Settings \Jack\Desktop\EightBelowWS XiD ac3 FiCO.avi. Eight Below is title of movie i downloaded. I would be grateful for help

All you would need is
From the error;
1) an XviD decoder such as XviD or FFDShow (needs to have XviD decoding enabled for VfW).
2) fccHandler's AC3 ACM codec.

A directshow AC3 decoder like FFDShow or AC3Filter wouldn't be a bad idea either, but from the error you are trying to open via VfW/ACM.

I have them codecs downladed. For your info i downloaded movie from limewire.
