Hey everyone

So heres the deal!

I current have £200 to waste on a comp + whatever i might be able to sell some of the parts im currenty running!

So lets say £250

Now i earn abour £25 a week so if i need to go over theni can but obviously i dont wanna have to wait for a year or so.

So can any one spec me out a decent Gaming rig. Preferably AMD because i know there a hell of lot better for gaming but P4s ok if you think itl do the job better.

Also im really into the whole dual core thing now i know for that budget its gonna be hard but if maybe someone could also spec me out a pc with a dual core as close to my budget as possible!

But mainly i want a cheapy gaming rig!!

I have a PSU which came with Case which i assume is crap so if theres any left overs always can put in there.
I have Monitor
I have hd
I have Case
I have mouse
I have keyboard
I have DVd Drive!

So basically i need everything else!
Thanks soo much in advance as i know how cool you lot are on the forums with this type of thing!

Any questions just ask.

Also this will be my first build so if possible keep it to a simple build.
Cheers!!

OO also this is my current rig so it would have to be a big improvement on this:

PROC:

AMD Sempron 3000+

MOBO:

Asus A7v600-X

Ram:

Not 100% sure here but I know its corsair twin 512mb!

Video card:

Radeon X700 256MB

I've just built a PC for a mate, the card alone was £240! So if you want a gaming PC for £250, then you WILL be really struggling..
I suggest that you start saving.

I know this thread is a bit olf, but I was reading through, and it seems like you will have a hard time getting a better rig for 250GBP. The reason being that in the UK components are more expensive than in the US.

Right now your PC is technically a mid range gaming rig. A big improvement on performance would probably mean an AMD X2, 2GB RAM, and a 7800 or better...

Here is an example of a cheap Dual Core PC for you:

Motherboard GA-K8N Pro (58gbp):
http://www.microdirect.co.uk/ProductInfo.aspx?ProductID=9976&Grou...

CPU Athlon x2 3800 (175gbp):
http://www.microdirect.co.uk/ProductInfo.aspx?ProductID=10251&Gro...

GPU 7900GT (163gbp):
http://www.microdirect.co.uk/ProductInfo.aspx?ProductID=13131&Gro...

RAM, if you have 2x 512, you do not need any more RAM for now...

The total goes to 396gbp, which is about 146gbp over your budget...

I think your best bet would be to lower your video settings a bit and play with your current rig. Then save up some more money and build yourself a nice rig that can handle newer games at high resolution and detail. This means that future games will be playable as well.

Your current setup can get you very nice results in just about every game out there. I have an x700 pro on one of my PCs and I can play Oblivion with no problems.

I play at 1024x768. I enable Bloom, set textures to max, view distance max, shadows off/lowest, tree shadows on, grass about 30%, ini tweaks, etc...

I get the following FPS:

Dungeons/Indoors:
roaming- 60FPS
roaming with NPCs- 45/50FPS
Fighting- 35/40FPS
Attacked by watchmen- 25/35FPS

Cities:
roaming- 45/60FPS
Roaming with NPCs- 35/50FPS
Fighting- 25/40FPS
Attacked by watchmen- 20/40FPS

Field:
roaming- 30FPS
Roaming with NPCs/Animals- 30FPS
Fighting- 25FPS
Attacked by Watchmen- 20/30FPS
Attacked by watchmen/Horses/NPCs- 15/25FPS

There are of course sporadic minimums of 10FPS and such, however I am running my OS on a broken HDD, so that might factor in...

I even experimented with antialiasing and such and there was not much affect on performance. I put AA up to 6x and it dropped performance about 30%, but framerate was capped at 35FPS...

Oblivion is one of if not the most resource intensive game out there and the x700 Pro can run it fine. This means that you will have no problem playing games released before this. Games like Age of Empires 3 can be played with everything maxed and there is no impact on performance.

This video card is basically a 1024x768 video card. It will play anything you throw at it at that resolution. Also, your current setup is perfect for the card and any better card will need more RAM and a better CPU so the performace boost say a 6800 or x800GTO will give you is not going to be enough to justify the price...
