I just brought a external dvd/cd burner, and i had no problem burning anything, but i did have a problem playing my burnt dvd in dvd player.
When I went to my moms home, the burnt dvd works in her dvd player. I used divx to burn my dvds, do anyone knows what can be the problem.

I dont think this should be in advanced forum myself but here goes...

You need to list your DVD model here & also you didn't use DivX to burn I wouldn't have thought , so if you could run through exactly what you did that'd help us to help you.

this is the typical Newbie question.......why doesn't my burnt DVDs work in the stand alone players! there are a number of reasons why a DVD will not play in some players while they play in others. read this:
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/183136
check out #3,4 & 12 very good reading.....

#3 will take you to VideoHelp.com where you can put in your drive name in the search and find out what that dive can burn, comments from others about it's rating and more facts about your drive.

the rest is self explanitory and you can learn alot..... check out the guides there, too!

use DVDIdentifier to find out what firmware your drive has:
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/dvd_tools/dvd_id...

Use this page to search your drive and find out the latest firmware for your drive. if your running on an older firmware then you should update it!:
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_search.php

these are just a few things you can do to find out what's wrong and why your disks aren't working for your players...... oh... one more thing..... use good media:
http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm
here is a decent media guide that will tell you what's good and what's crappy! to cut the long story short...... use Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Sony, Maxell, to name a few but if you just remember to use disks that are MADE IN JAPAN that's a good indication that you are using great media!

0ne more thing...... if you are using DivXtoDVD then you are using an older program and you should try to upgrade to the newer one.. it's not called ConvertXToDVD:
