I put in a new hard drive a couple weeks ago (bestbuy seagate 120 for 59.99) This morning the computer said due to changes with my hardware I would have to reactivate windows within 3 days. I did it, but what I'm wondering is why did that happen and am I going to have to do it again when I add the 200 gb maxtor I just got for 49.99 (after rebate). I bought this OS online and have gone thru some serious scruteny but it always come out legit.

Leave the seagate in as master with the operating system on it and add the new Maxtor as a slave,use that for storage and you'll be fine.Otherwise there are programs available that allow you to copy your entire O.S. to a new drive (Norton's ghost comes to mind) I think Maxtor has a utility on they're website that will do it for you.

I had changed the seagate to master after putting it in, Probally what triggered the reactivation. The seagate came with a easy to use program, I'm sure maxtors is about the same.

If your going to install the Maxtor as slave all you will have to do is partition it and you'll be good to go.
