How can you tell what version your bios is? And got any idea how to flash it? I'm putting in a 200 gb hard drive and it says to be sure the bios is updated to handle over 137 gb drives. also wants xp to be at least sp1 (no problem there). I went to shuttle and got the latest bin file but there is no instructions on how to use it. I know I did it before and it may be this update (3 yrs old) but I dont remember how.

Check on your screen when the computer is posting.usually you'll see Award v.xxx or Pheonix V.xxx depending on your chip. It may also be printed on your bios chip,I've seen that a time or two.

As for flashing/updating the bios you should check with your mother board manufacturer...the instructions should be on they're website or in your manual.

is more of a windows problem than a bios problem. if board can handle a 30gig or greater hd than can handle 200gig.

Yes ddp is correct(as usual),I forgot about the 137 gb. barrier on Xp-sp1. This problem does not exist with sp-2.

Tried to put in the maxtor drive, upon restart the bios screen show it at 136 gb. my floppy drive is toast can I boot with a cd? I put the bin file from shuttle on a cd and it wouldn't run. (yes I set the cd drive to boot first before hdd. I have an email into shuttle but I thought while my connection online is back up I'd ask ya'll if I can do that. I'm probally going to have to reformat anyhow and lose what i have things are very screwy after putting in the 120gb drive. It crashes and locks up all the time. I figure something got left behind in the data transfer. my legit version of xp is a oem reinstall, has no repair feature, my illegit has the repair feature but it wouldn't work would it? both are xp pro
Thanks for any help
