when i get to the bit where sora first travels to a new world i fly the gummi ship to a gate and the game just crashes, ive tried re-building and tried 2 different versions of the game but it keeps happening, any idea y this could be?

This is a game problem, do a search for this in the forum and you'll find that you aren't the only one with the problem.

You'll have to wait for a patch for the game to be released, before that, you'll have to use your DVD-R backup to play the game when you get to the gummy ship stages
