what kind of media? like TDK 8X DVD-R
the brand of media you use could cause this.
Also outdated firmware on your burner
the wrong burning speed
a game that needs rebuilding
or seceral other factors

firmware is what every DVD burner runs on. Updated firmware means better compatibility with more brands of discs and a better job burning them.

If downloaded and burned games work, then you are doing something wrong backing up originals.
What games are they?
and how are you backing them up, step by step.
are you using Swap Magic to load them?

for me, always DVD Decrypter
http://ps2burns.host.sk/tools.html
and how to use it
http://home.earthlink.net/~moderator/id3.html
and what games are they so someone can tell you if there is anything special you need to do.
But 95% of them are just a strait up copy like the link i gave you.
Simple process.

Then you are doing something wrong. Simple as that.
I have been backing up movies, PS2 games, and Xbox games for years and DVD Decrypter i used for all of the games.

But since you don't seem to provide any answers to my questions i can not narrow down what it could be and help you. So here is one last chance.

1. What brand and speed DVD are you using (TDK 8X DVD-R for example)
2. Do you use Swap Magic to load back ups
3. What speed are you burning the back up at
4. are you backing them up to the hard drive and then to a new DVD
5. when using DVD Decrypter did you burn the MDS file
6. WHAT GAME ARE YOU TRYING TO BACK UP

without answering people's quetions to narrow it down no one will be able to help you
saying "my game doesn't work..why?" is not going to get it solved.
