I tried to import an avi file (a torrent file that i downloaded) into windows movie maker but this message was shown : "This file cannot be imported. Make sure that it is a valid file type and that its contents have not been corrupted". what should i do? do i need a codec, or do i need divx player? please help. Im a dummy when talking about computers.

Well seems as if you need an appropriate codec. Can you play the file on your computer with windows media player? If you cant then you need to find a codec. Using gspot ( http://www.headbands.com/gspot/ )will tell you what codec you need.
