Well this is what is happening - I have problems with playing my urned movies on my Philips model 642 dvd player at first they will play the they start skipping and finnally just stop. I use DVD decrypter and Roxioor Nero to burn them (using the lowest burn speed there is) The medium I have used Memorex DVD+R, HP DVD+R, Verbatium DVD+R, Ridata DVD+R . It happens to all of them. I have also tried to decrypt using DVD Shrink and DVDSVCD programs. My Brother in Arizona has a Philips 726-17 dvd player and I sent one of my movies to himand after playing it 3 times in a row it did not skip or stop go figure - is it the DVD player? the medium? or the software? and help would be appreciated--RCG

it's the media, the programs and NOT THE PLAYER/BURNER.

Memorex is called Memorsuck around here... it's just crappy media!
you have Roxio running with Nero...... very bad..... it is a known fact that both programs don't mix....... use one or the other and you should be able to record! good luck

You shouldn't have Nero and roxio installed on the same pc. They run in the background and can interfere with one another. Remove roxio and then use roxio zapper to remove any remnants. Your verbatims should be as good as ty's. Try booktyping them dvd-rom. Burn at 1/2 the rated speed of the media for starters and then try 8x but no faster. Make sure your firmware is current.

I'll bet it's the philips 642 player.

What exactly are you backing up onto dvd?

You said every one of yours skips and then stops, while your brother played them perfect.

View a few of them backups using your pc,and the DVD-RW that burned it-to play them. See if those issues show up during playback on your pc. Mainly the areas of the disc where the freezing occurs. That burner drive should play them, and look near original in quality.

Stand alone players do some weird stuff when it comes to reading dvd backups.Yours sounds like it's a picky player.

Anything here ring a bell when you make a dvd backup?

Multi-tasking
Paper/sticker labels
Fragmented harddrive
Too fast of burn

A picky player can pick apart any of those flaws i mentioned above-which means it don't like your backups. There's a slew of other possibilities as well.

Memorex and Hp aren't exactly the finest media out there. Stand alone players will pick out media with lower quality.Verbatim are very good and ridata are pretty decent.

Roxio and Nero do conflict. Rid all remnants of them off your pc using those cleaning tools. If you need the Roxio, leave out the drag to disc packet. If you need the Nero, leave out the INCD4 packets.Nero is highly rated around here. You can get a lot more support here at AD than you can with roxio.

Main thing: Make sure your burner plays it's own backups. If ok,then up to the stand alone players/game consoles/and other pc drives.
