Is it just me or does Ripping with a Plextor and a Dell just suck???
The Plextor Burns like there is no tomorrow. However, when using a Dell computer the Plextors can not Rip for nothing. A standard movie back up takes 50 mintues to rip using a Dell and a Plextor..716A and the new Sata.755SA. That does not count the time to burn the back up. I just went toe to toe with the Geek squad and they promised the new SATA with a Dell (Dual Channel) would be a beast...Bull Crap!!! The only Beast I saw was the crap I wiped off my shoes!! I have a few 810 Sonys that rip and burn to a 716 Plextor. They work great!!!( with Dells) One Sony wore out and I bought a 820A Sony. Geek Squad could not get the Sony to work in any Dell computer they tried. I just want to know does anyone have a Sony 820A installed in a Dell computer and it works??? I dont think so. Thanks so much for allowing me to vent...I want to break something!!

Was just suggesting an alternative to the one you have, if the drive can be exchanged, take it back to Best Buy and try another brand/model number until the Geek squad can get it working the way you want it to. Heck, your money worked perfectly for them, their drive should work the same for you. just my 2˘ worth.

I am on my second Dell, the first one had my Plex 716UF hooked up and it speed reads like lightning. When I got the second Dell I put in a internal 716a and hooked up the USB 716UF and both still speed read fine, I can get 12x read on a dual layer DVD movie. I have SATA also and all work fine. I think you better check out your DMA, Dells will come through in PIO mode and drives that do not come with the computer are not enabled you have to go in the bios and do it yourself.

Edit: also if you have PlexTools make sure your speed read is checked in the program, this governs read speed.

@Rushman1

You can get the DW1650 BenQ OEM from newegg.com for $40 delivered. It's a sweet drive that will do Nero scans and booktype +Rs to ROMs. I added it last month. You can download the QSuite to enhance it to. Came with latest firmware also.

Hi there,

I am on my Dell #2 and we have lots of Dell at work.

Dell loves Cable Select period :)

I had drives on MASTER that would not boot, used Cable Select and POOF everything back to normal !

@cougar_ii

On Dell #3 yes cable select. It tells you in the manual when you install a new rw drive. Have never had trouble adding drives with any of the Dells.

I agree with arniebear. It sounds loke a DMA/PIO issue is slowing that drive.
