D2sRoBa DVD2SCVD Anamorphic Quality?

I've been playing around with D2SRoBa/DVD2SCVD recently. I really like it. But... I took an AVI captured from a DV camcorder (shot in 16:9) and ran it thru D2SRoBa, using all the default settings, to get an authored DVD. I tried all the aspect ratio combinations to see what transfered correctly to my 4:3 TV. Both 16:9 (borders added, encoded as 4:3) and Anamorphic (no borders, encoded as 16:9) played correctly on my 4:3 TV (with black bars at top and bottom). However, the Anamorphic version showed motion jaggies (artifacts, edge combing, what ever you want to call it) on both my computer screen and my TV when played back, whereas the the "borders added, encoded as 4:3" looked great on both computer and TV. Now, I understand that Anamorphic is preferable because it is "future proof" when I finally get that 16:9 TV, so I would prefer to use that format.

Why does the Anamorphic look so much worse than the other when the settings were exactly the same otherwise? What can I do to fix it?

I think I solved it. Its my Apex AD1500 player that can't handle anamorphic downconversion very well. I played the same DVD in my Lite-On 5115 DVDR and I could not tell the difference between the 2 tracks. I also found this discussion about the crappy chipsets Apex uses:

I may just have to go get me a Philips DVP642 now and put the Apex with the TV in the garage because I'm such a damn perfectionist
