If you dont use a modchip then you must use "Swapmagic" is this what you are using?

you will need to use either swapmagic disc or get a modchip. BACKED UP games will not work with out one

FAT older PS2 - Swapmagic Discs with Slidecard or FLIPTOP
http://www.clearxbox.com is where I bought my Discs & Fliptop

if you know someone with a Modded PS2 and you have a Original PS1 game Hard Drive and Network adaptor for your PS2 you can do a Memory card Exploit and play games off the Hard Drive...

Newer Slim PS2's - Magic Switch or Slim tools + Swapmagic Discs

Just to add...

You might want to try some higher quality media. Memorex will give you a lot of troubles in the long run! Try Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Maxell or Philips

modchips are in every way better than Swap Magic
DMS4 Pro SE, Matrix Infinity, & Crystal Chip V1.1
those are about the best 3 around right now.

$ wise Swapmagic / Slidecard / Magic Switch would be the best way to go....

Swapmagic will allow you to use the discs in more than one ps2, so long as you have flip lids or slide tools you will only need 1 set of discs.....so price wise they are much cheaper than modchips. Swapmagic with 1 fliplid will cost around £30.00 fliplids are around
£12.00. Slidetools @.99p.

Yes Swap Magic is cheaper, and there is a good reason for that.

1. Swap Magic can not play DVD9 Back ups and a good modchip can. With Swap magic you have to rip parts of the game out to shrink it to DVD5
2. Swap Magic requires you to buy new discs each time they update them if you want the new features and fixes. A good modchip has free flash upgrades that you download and burn to CD that will always keep the features and fixes for newer games up to date.
3. With Swap Magic some games require rebuilding or patching, not with a modchip
4. Swap Magic will have a small portion of the screen cut off when playing games that are from another region, a modchip will not
5. Swap Magic has all kinds of special proceedures you have to use to load back ups with cheats, that is if you ever get it to work at all. A mod chip will work with AR Max just like originals, and a DMS4 Pro even has it's own cheat device built right into the flash for the chip.
6. swap magic can not be backed up, so if the disc gets scratched or broken you have to buy new one's
7. A good modchip like DMS4 Pro has all the features you need for installing a hard drive (IDE) onto your PS2 and formating it, loading games to it, and playing games from the hard drive. No need for extra programs like HD Loader, Winhiip and so on.

and that is just off the top of my head. In the short term it may seem cheaper, but it is just because it is an inferior mod with less features and more overall problems. Trust me. I have a PS2 V7 with Fliptop that now collects dust since i bought a V12 with DMS4 Pro in it. I will never go back to swapping again.
