If I had my booktyping set to burn dvd+R discs, but then decide to burn with a dvd-r disc will this affect my burn? Basically, do I have to change my booktyping settings for each kind of disc I use? Or will Nero recognize this automatically(nero 6 ultra edition)And would booktyping ruin a dvd-R disc? I have searched around the internet for answers, and they are all different in opinions!

As far as I know you dont need to change your settings, your burner will recognize discs as -R.

Well, I can be positive. In case you're unfamiliar, booktyping is mostly about compatibility with the many players produced. DVD ROM is the universal player format. If nothing else, a DVD player is supposed to play DVD ROM and that goes for the first and last player to ever be produced.
Your drive will recognize your different media as long as it is functioning properly. Booktyping only works with DVD +R and +R DL media. Booktyping (aka bitsetting) will not work with -R media. So when you put in a -R disc, it won't be booktyped to DVD ROM. So, if you're desiring to booktype to ROM, you're currently limited to the +R media.

borat187, most drives(burners) support booktyping and have software with the drive to do this, set it and forget it, then if your using dvd plus r its set to dvd-rom and if your using dvd dash r you wont need to do anything

Good guide. Alkihol does good work. That one shows setting booktype with DVD Decrypter. The free DVDInfoPro utility can be used as well. http://www.dvdinfopro.com/ Apps such as Nero will do the job as well. Some burner software such as Plextools will accomplish the task too.

Good point on the included software. You're getting good on these help threads.
LOL much to the delight of some I'm a noobie. I'm just doing it as a lark tonight. I'll be gone tomorrow as I promised, also to the delight of many. Keep up the good work and keep your head down.
