what is VAT? is it tax because in ontario, canada, the tax is 14 percent with the recent gst cut so you would have to add that. the big price difference i see is the 4800 for 445. for that price, i guess i might use that in my next build. but then again, there's always conroe.

ok thanks. another hard choice to make (3800 or 4200).i was not planing on upgradeing from the 3200 chip but now because of the amd price cuts. i believe that time has come.
also can OC hurt anything?

Value Added Tax. 17.5% on goods except for food. The 4800 hasn't dropped in the UK yet, so the 4600 is currently the best deal at £170. The 4200 over the 3800 if you're not going to OC much, the 3800 if you are going to give it some. the 3800 will actually end up faster than a 4200 overclocked due to a stepping update. However, the extra 200mhz will see a stock 4200 be faster. Bear in mind a 3800 is just two 3200s, so in one single core app pre-overclock, an x2 3800+ is the same speed as an A64 3200+. OC won't hurt unless you go mad with the voltage (and you shouldn't need to!) but OCing somehow voids a warranty....

redice: I just told you no! OC can't hurt, read my whole post! You will see a difference with the 3800, but only in that you can do more at once. If you were to convert a video in a single core app, it'd take exactly the same time as a 3200 standard, but you could if you wanted, do two at once, or do that and play a game, for example. The 4200 makes things faster all round.
A 19" 4:3 is preferable for a lot of scenarios. I've no idea who Hanns-G are! 250 nits is so-so brightness, but 700:1 contrast is quite good, 8ms response isn't too bad either.

I wouldn't say OC'ing can't hurt. Alot of people have destroyed alot of hardware because they weren't careful about it.
redice,
The 4200 will indeed have an edge over the 3800 in most tasks, not just video editing.

the 4200 has more mhz, and more mhz means more speed! (Well, it does in this case... those other cases are best forgotten, ahem Prescott) That's true nephilim but in general if you don't be silly you should expect few problems, I was trying to make it sound simple :D

@redice,
In answer to your question "will o/c hurt anything".
Firstly the cpu is probably the last thing you need to worry about as far as problems go.Try to go to fast and you wont post.To much voltage = overheat then shutdown as long as you have thermal monitoring enabled in the bios to shut down @ say 60degrees celcius.Slow things down drop the voltage and your right to go.(Though you may need to clear cmos and start again).The memory will fail through to much voltage being applied so don't go crazy trying to get DDR600 speeds from DDR400 memory by giving it 4 volts!! You will find good quality memory will sit .2 to .4 volts above specs without any trouble as long as you have adequate cooling/airflow in your case.My value select corsair sits at 2.9v without a hiccup)although I did try it it @3.2v(NOT RECOMMENDED THOUGH) for extra speed but didn't gain anything except heat.The one component which is so often overlooked is the psu.
This is where saving a dollar can hurt you.If you try to give everything a few extra volts(which you will when o/c) and your psu isn't up to scratch,components will fail within the psu before it overheats and shuts down.
As far as 3200 or 4200 go,As your planning to o/c, the 3800 will be the way to go.If you were going to run stock,then the 4200.

@theonejrs,
LOL!! Sorry, but I actually hadn't read that!!
The Tuniq 120 still isn't in stock by the way and I,m starting to get very impatient!!
Decided on this memory: TEAM Xtreem PC4000 Hermes TCCD 1GB Kit (2x512Mb 1024Mb) DDR500 CL2.5-3-3-6 for $199 Aus.It's got the Samsung TCCD chips so will run at higher speeds without needing excessive volts so no need to load up the psu.
Was going to go for:
TEAM Xtreem PC4000 Zeus 2-2-2-5 Winbond BH-5 UTT 1GB Kit (2x512Mb) DDR500, 1024Mb, TXDR1024M500HC2DC for $219 for the tighter timings but don't want to have to give them the excess voltage to get the same speed as the TCCD chips when o/clocked.

I just wound up with an Arctic Freezer Pro 7, completely by accident. It was supposed to be for a socket 478, but because of a misprint, it was for socket 775. Rather than ship it back, I pulled the Zalman 9500 off of my D940 and put it on the Prescott.
Here's my Idle temp in a 23C room!
Here's fully loaded!
These temps just amaze me. That's 6 to 8C lower than the Zalman 9500!
Want to be even more amazed? Check the temps at idle in a 33C/83F room!
Sophocles said that my Thermal sensor has gone bad but my buddy brought over an Optris laser reading thermal probe. It has 3 lazer beams which adjust from inches to about 15 ft. Just adjust till there's only one spot and take it's temperature. You can do this right through the side window on my case! According to the Optris, there's about 1C difference between it and the AsusProbe!
Needless to say, I'm pretty impressed with the Freezer Pro 7 !
Happy Computering,

tocool4u: Lol there was no need to send us all that! It's still alright, but single cores are starting to look a little on the old-fashioned side.
Crowy: Right on. But for someone new to OCing, I think he may be best off just not upping the voltages at all to start with. If you are to OC though, even I'd say 3800, despite buying a 4200. Still no Tuniq? All I'd say is um, buy a Zalman? :D :D
Team Xtreem? Now I've heard it all.
Baltekmi: Last time I checked there was no Athlon 3300, possibly a sempron, but $19.99? Pff, yeah right! There's one A in Athlon btw, and AMD is in capitals, since it's a TLA (Three letter acronym).
Theone: Yeah the AC Freezers are amazing, and I still would have got one had they been in stock for my X2, but they weren't so Zalman it was.
