Help needed.

I have just re-installed windowsxp pro and media centre in 2 partitions on my hard drive. Now I find that my DVD drive reads extremely slow and as a result slows absolutely everything else down too. I backed up files onto data DVD but now cannot retrieve any of the info there. Can anyone give any suggestions? I know there are no driver or firmware updates for this device.

Any thoughts ppl?
