Hello,
I have a 6 mbps cable connection. I have a motorola surfboard modem, a linksys WRT54G router, and am running ZoneAlarm as a Firewall.

In Bittorrent, I am only getting 50-80 kbps download speeds. When I download a file from a website, I get around 850 kbps. Why is Bittorrent downloading so slow?

Is there anything I can do? Thanks

Pick a torrent that has a high seed to leech ratio. 50-80 kbps is actually pretty good for public torrent sites. You can also try port forwarding. There are some guides in this forum to show you how.

Thank you for the response. What is the alternative to public torrent sites?

Private torrent sites of course.
They work with invites, for example :
You have a friend who's on such a private site/tracker, and you want to join there.
He sends you an invite code, or invite email, you accept, and presto, you're in.

A quick warning, however, you are NOT allowed to ask for invites to those kind of sites on these forums.
If you decide to ignore that rule, you could be banned from here.

Wanna tell me off, go ahead.

Thank you. I have forwarded the port for my uTorrent client on my router. Do I need to do this for ZoneAlarm? how?

Is there any other steps I can take to get better speeds?

Some private sites are open for registration without invites. I don't have zone alone so I don't know how it works, but I have McAfee firewall and I don't have to do anything with it.

Are there any other privacy protectors other than PeerGuardian? Thanks
