yes, like stated. Not all rar files can be opened just by clicking on them. Some you have to open up WinRAR and add them manually.
instead of clicking on the file try what Dan168 suggested and open WinRAR, then add the file manually by browsing, then try to extract it.
There are also several different methods to add files to WinRAR, i am not in front of it right now to tell you what they are. But if the first doesn't ork try another way.

your right hursty! i never opened a file that way before. i picked WinRAR as the program to open it and there was the .iso. i don't know why i did not see it like that. it is strange however that WinRAR did not pick it up to begin with. ya know? COOL anyhow. i understand , thank you all so much!

The reason WinRAR didn't want to open it is because of the reason I explained before, which is: "The problem that you can right click on the file and tell it to extract with WinRAR is because WinRAR thinks that for a proper set of rar files, the first file should be .rar ..."
Usually they don't start with .001, in fact that's the first I've heard, and the file extension is not registered with WinRAR.

yea, and now that i told WinRAR to open that type of file it shows up as a WinRAR file now. yes it is strange that the first one is not .rar but i have run accoss a couple of games that way and i just deleated them because i did not know what to do. but i am a big fan of the shadow hearts series, so this is great!

i'd probably say 25% of the files i get have files that are shown as "unknown" file type.
its not uncommon for me to get half rar's and half unknown files

If you are talking about WinRAR, I think that's because it only registers so many file extensions with it? Like it'll have .rar, .r00, ..., .rxx registered, but anything after that won't be... well I guess there's not really a need for the program to be registered with the file extensions, as long as you know what you are doing, but for newbies this can be annoying

Like you dan168 I thought the same thing when it came to rar files being broken down. You had one rar file + the other registered extension r01 through r99, depending how much the volume was expanded. Take a look at one of the screenshots I took when I was helping a person out awhile back.
http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/321666
I guess the developer(s), thought it was pointless to make the extension r01 to r99 because some people probably had archives that exceeded r99. So what they did was added an additional part (example part001, part002, etc) in the filename as oppose to putting it as an extension to connect to the other files.
The newer version of WinRAR no longer registers the extension r01 through r99. Don't matter, the problem has been solved anyways. Just thought I give an insight.

yea, i just figured out the .mds and .mdf too. i don't see a direct program to copy it to disk. what i had to do was mount it with Daemon Tools and then use clone cd to copy disk to disk. it is odd that DVD Decrypter won't read it. because DVD Decrypter uses .mds files but it says it is a single track image, whatever that means. i also got the new version of the program called imgburn but that won't burn it either. i heard there was a simple way with magiciso but i can't figure out how to use it. so how do you burn .mdfs?

@ dan,
i dont mean all the files are unknown file types,i mean only part of them, like this
this snapshot shows files from the same set of rar's
they will all stop at rar 29,thinks its something to do with windows, feck knows.
but as long as you know what to do,its never a problem for me

@hursty
Yes I know what you meant, that's why I said it'll have .rar, .r00, ..., .rxx registered, but anything after that won't be... :) Maybe I just didn't say it clearly... well ideally you only want the .rar file to be registered with WinRAR anyway, but there's just quite a few variations to the naming of the file extensions, it gets annoying that's all

i know this is off subject a bit, but do you know if there is a way to mod the 360 yet? i see lots of 360 game torrents out there. so there must be a way to copy the games, but do they play? or know any good threads also that i can check out to get up to date. i don't own a 360 yet, but i figure i can start getting the games, ya know.
