This is everything I've picked for my new computer. I tried to keep the price down, so some things may not be the greatest. I pretty much stuck to the things they used at this site [ http://sysbuild.corsairmemory.com/report.aspx?id=2 ]since most of what they were putting in was what I wanted.

All this is off Newegg. The price is about $1,542.81, and I haven't gotten my OS yet.

That looks very close to my build, it just came in the mail today, not put together yet.
CPU- I wanted the AMDX2 4400+ but was talked into the Opteron 175 (not really, similar prices, enough people around here chimed in to push me over the edge when I was asking). Opterons seem to have more OC possibilities which you might like reading everything I did about the mobo we picked.
HD- maybe think about changing the 80GB to a 74GB 10,000RPM WD Raptor, the difference between that and a regular drive to put your OS on is impressive.
You say no OS yet, make sure you get either (if MicroSUX) XP Media Edition or Pro, I found out the hard way after I ordered everything that a X2 CPU needs either because XP Home only has support for a single core. Now I cant build untill a day or 2 when Media center arrives since I already have Home.

Everyrthing you listed looks top of the line, just giving you ideas to think about.

I changed a few things around. I switched my PSU to a Cooler Master Extreme Power 430W, downgraded the 7600GT to the 7600GS, and dropped the wireless keyboard for a Logitech Media Elite that will go with my current optical mouse. I got rid of the floppy, too. Think I'll need it? I think I'll keep my CPU since I don't plan on overclocking much. With those changes and Media Center, it's $1,595.13, and I just remembered I need a modem until I get to college. I'll probably be able to reuse on we have, though.

Thanks for the heads-up about XP. I was going to get Home edition, I just hadn't added it to my cart. You probably saved me quite a hassle.

No problems, wish I wouldve saved myself the hassle.
My copy comes in today, so I should start my build tonight or tomorrow. Wish me luck.

That will be a nice setup. If doing over I'd go the AMD dual core route too. I won't get anymore hdd's over 250 gb. My maxtor 300 gb hdd is noisy. Dump the asus drive for a benq DW1650 or DW1655.

Not trying to stretch this out but ShBm you asked about getting rid of floppy being worth it; I havent needed one in 3 years, but in case of major crash its about the only thing to get your MOBO back to its origional state. I own one, if worse comes to worse I can always hook it up, but its not installed, taking up room in the case.

I actually did switch my dvd cd drive to a DVD-R drive and cd-r drive. Both by BenQ. Wierd.

I did decide to take the floppy and modem out of an old pc to use for this one.
