Btw, I also checked out the DMA thing, it says it's off because I have the nForce chipset and it uses "ultra DMA" which I'm using on all my drives. I used to be able to burn dvds and CDs all the time then I couldn't burn CD-RWs then DVDs. I updated to Nero 7 and I can use CD-RWs, but still not the DVDs. Granted these are a new version of the media (TDK DVD-R 1-16x) but my drive is TDK, you think they'd work together...

Hi Makowb
Welcome to aD!
Your TDK drive is actually a NEC-1300A. Older drive - max burn of 4x. So even with the latest firmware your drive may not handle some of the newer 16x discs. Looks like the last update for this drive was 9/2004.

So try switching the media to Verbatim or Made in Japan Sony, Fuji or Maxell. Look for 8x - your drive should handle this better.
It may also be time to upgrade this drive to a newer 16x one.

Oh and edit out the serial in your post - begins w/ 1C82. Don't need someone else using it!

Don't exactly have the money for a new burner, but these DVDs are basically useless because there's no support for my drive? Lame...I don't have the money to go out and buy a lot of DVDs let alone drives ><. Oh well, thanks for the help.

Nero Version: 7.2.0.3
This version of Nero is full of bugs, I would uninstall it, run this clean tool,http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/Nero7_CleanTool.html and then install this version 7.0.8.2
http://www.filehippo.com click on Nero 7.2.0.3 and then select 7.0.8.2 for a bug free version

Well they may be hit or miss since the drive hasn't had any recent updates.
Here's a few more suggestions that may or may not help:
°Try cleaning the lens of the drive w/ a lens cleaner.
°Check your connections to the drive - make sure connected securely.
°Defrag if you haven't recently.
°Try the downgrade of Nero suggested by Gwen
°Try burning w/ another app - try CloneDVD (21 day free trial). I think it uses it's own aspi. Nero is using XP's.
Did anything else change between the time you were able to burn to when it wouldn't burn anything?
New drives aren't that bad now a days - good ones under $50(us). May be something to save for :)

A word of advice, stick to Nero 7.0.8.2...you will NOT regret it.

Heres something I read about nForce drivers, hope it helps
Quote:
Install actual mainboard driver (Busmaster/ Chipset driver). Contact in this case manufacturer of your mainboard. For test you can also try to burn without DMA mode, ( only possible under Windows XP and Windows 2000 ) in the device manager - "IDE ATA/ ATAPI controllers", you can switch from DMA to PIO mode. Pls. notice: If problems caused by NFORCE Chipset drivers, you should better reinstall MS standard IDE drivers.

More than one installed burnersoftwares can cause problems (**some softwares replace ASPI driver by their own! ) so install only one, especially actual trial release of NERO [ http://www.nero.com ] and check burn project again.

**If needed, install actual ASPI Driver (contact manufacturer of your burnersoftware e.g. www.nero.com )

Use our recommended medias , with other medias there`s no guarantee, they will be written correctly and with maximum speed.

For Problems with InCD, pls. contact Nero support. Be informed device works only with InCD, Mt.Rainier (e.g. directCD) is not supported.

You can deactivate for test (only with Windows XP) "IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service", go to menu "start" > "settings" > "administration" > "services", search "IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service", rightclick and deactivate "starttyp".

@Makowb
You're probably right - you've ruled out a bunch of other possibilites.
My guess is the burning failures started w/ the 16x speed dvd media.
For the older drives that haven't received any recent support - they don't handle the newer dvd media well at all.
See if a friend has some 8x or lower rated media you can try.
Don't know where you located but Besy Buy, Staple etc usually have weekly sales on the good stuff - 50 for 14.99. There are also some online sites where you can still get 4x media.

Definitely good stuff :)
Taiyo is what I mainly use.
The made in Japan brands from post above are usually made by Taiyo.
If you don't have a printer that will print to dvd's then just get the non printable ones.
Here's another one for you:
http://www.supermediastore.com/taiyo-yuden-4x-dvd-r-100.html

Sony's good too - has been to me - I've used the ones manufactured by Sony themselves and made by Taiyo.

@rell22, Welcome to AD. It's not a good idea to pin your post onto another as it may get overlooked, it is always suggested you start one of your own. So we can see whats happening can you post a Nero log, located here

Nero 6 history log location: Program Files>Ahead>Nero>NeroHistory.txt

Nero 7 history log location: Program Files>Nero>Nero 7>Core>NeroHistory.tx

The logs gives us a lot of info we need to locate your problem.
