Ok let me first start by saying ive burned a lot of films with my computer's dvd recorder. So i have some knowledge about burning dvds. Now that i got that out of the way here's my situation:

I bought a stand alone dvd recorder and for my first recording i did the season finale of 24. (for some reason my dish network displays this show kind of blurry).Anyway I recorded in SP (2hr) mode on a +RW disc.

Once i was finished i took that disc down to my pc's drive and used dvd shrink to create an .iso so i could burn onto a -r TY disc with decrypter. I did not compress anything, the file size was only about 3gig. Once it was done i put the new -r disc into my dvd player and the picture was even MORE pixelated and blurry. I dont get it.

The RW disc has good quality, but the -r doesnt. Is there a different burning "standard" when doing standalone vs. pc burning?

Cant help you on the situation, but did you watch the finale? Had 26 people here at my house! 24 is my favorite show! I buy all the seasons on dvd! I know this doesnt help with your problem, but I will say, when I "re-record" from my dvd recorder to another dvd, I too have seen a decline in the quality! Saw a funny bumper sticker....."Superman wears Jack Bauer underware" HeHe....

Yes i watched it and LOVED it. I thought it was a MUCH better ending than season 4, that dude kept getting away over and over and over!!! ugh!!!! that got on my nerves.

Anyway bck to the topic, why is there a drop in quality when recording from standalone to pc?? doesnt make any sense...

try doing it again with shrink and reset it to Max Smoothness:

if the settings for the burn is blocked out.... then just try DEEP ANALYSIS. See if this changes anything in the outcome.

If it's blurry on your dishnet, then should be slightly lower quality. Re-ripping onto DVD-R media, you'll lose even more quality.

Double check all your cables for that dishnet reciever.Maybe even upgrading to better cables.

I've use to have direct tv,recorded shows and burned to DVD+R.Making copies from them, way too horrible.
Now,because of my new residence, all I can get is cable that is wired in from a town 40 miles away. Very crappy.Lots of freezing/pixellation. Not even worth trying to burn something onto dvd.I usually used r discs in the recorder.

What's the brand names and speed rate of the media you are using-both r and rw?

You got 2 different manufacturers between both your dash r and dash RW.The MID codes will help tell us how the media quality is,especially for that dash r media.

How fast did you burn that second copy using DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter?

Another route, you could try ripping with DVD Decrypter in Mode ISO read-to the harddrive. Then Mode ISO write/locate those mds files/open/and burn away. I don't know if that'll help the quality though.

I've still been here at AD and cdfreaks.com.A couple other forum sites as well, LOL

Usually I hang out in the dvd +r newbies/dvd+/-rw drives/and DVD Shrink forums.Every once in a while at safety valve.
