I would like to rip the audio from a DVD movie and burn it on a cdr to play in my car. While I can rip the audio and convert it to a wav file, the wav file is too big to burn on a cdr. Is there an auto shrink program, sort of like DVD Shrink, which will compress the audio so it will fit on a cdr?

Cool Edit Pro is a good audio editting program that will convert Wav files to MP3s.....hopefully that will make the file small enough to fit a CD ...... other wise you will have to edit it down to fit onto multiple CDs. And then you will have to have an MP3 player in your car to listen to those MP3 CDs.

I use Ac3dec to convert DVD to audio but the free version will not work with windows XP.

The new version is nice with a small fee and will convert your AC3 file to different formats(mp3,wav) in one step
This link is for the free version and will not work with windows XP. The new version is called AC3 Decoder and in the software section as well.
I still use Windows ME so I can use the free version but I do like the new version better. It is more user friendly.

Colorado, If you like to listen to movies in your car you ought to think about getting a CD/MP3 player for your car. I picked up a Alpine CD/MP3 player for about $175.
You can convert your movies to MP3 but they will still be too big for a CD. But, if you have a MP3 player you can save your MP3's as data and not audio onto a CD.
I just did this and was able to fit about 4 movies onto one CD to listen to in my car.
Important: save MP3's as data. If you save as audio you will only be able to fit about 80MB of data but if you choose save as data you can put about 700MB of data which is about about 4 or 5 movies. Great for long trips on the road.

Thanks...I'll try the mp3 route. My in dash unit does not play cds with mp3 files so I'll check out your idea.

the xillsoft demo is only for five minutes of each chapter of a movie. i've been using it to make ringtones for my v710 from movie clips. works great. but i only need just about 20 seconds or so of a clip. but it does a great job so i'm sure the full version would work great also. i'd just rip and use audacity.
