I Have a new Hp 840e external dvd burner, what blank media would be best to use with this drive.

just to give you a little more information, here is a media guide:

rule of thumb for most DVDs are: Made-In-Japan (MIJ) Disks MIJ are the best.... there is an exception to this rule which is Verbatim.... they are made in Taiwan and still top notch. Taiyo Yuden, Verbatim, Sony, Maxell.. some of the top brands to get!

here is a free program that will give you manufacturers ID:

starting out with top notch media is soooooo important ....... if you run into problems you can rule out bad media from the start!

1. make sure your drive has the latest firmware:
http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php
2. burn at half the rated speed of your disk (if you have a DVD+R,8x... then burn at 4x and no higher than 8x if they are Taiyo Yudens!) this will stop read errors or freezing and pixelations.
3. if your drive can be booktyped then do it! this will make all your DVD+Rs look like DVD-ROMs which are more compatible with players! Read this:

4. do not put paper lables on your DVD.... this could cause read errors!
