Ok I have been using DVD Shrink on my laptop trying to burn dvd's with a sony external burner model DRX-820U but after encoding using DVD Shrink the computer freezes and won't burn...I'm using Nero 6.6.0.19....its at the end of encoding just before burning...it freezes at Burning to Cache...the computer freezes and the drive won't open unless it is turned off and then turned back on....I know my drive works because my daughter uses DVD Shrink with Nero 6.6.0.14 on her computer and my drive and it works but it won't work on my computer with my version of Nero....any ideas how to fix this...please help...I've been trying to fix this for some time now.

Hi lsmwif
Check your version of Nero on you laptop. There is no version 6.6.0.19.
Do you mean maybe 6.6.0.18?
Shrink is very cpu intensive and laptops don't have the greatest fans.
May be a heat issue. No multitasking and shut down any unnessecary processes.
Have you ever been able to use shrink on your laptop w/ this burner successfully?
Oh and it's best to keep your posts to one thread - makes things less confusing :)

Bigger fan properly wont help much with the heat generated but maybe an external burner at a slow speed when attempting to burn

You could actually remove your case cover and point a room fan directly at your enclosure if it is a heat issue.

Also, if it is a heat issue you can try one of the pads that have the fan in it and put it under you laptop, I use this with my laptop as it has an overheating issue when I try to use Shrink/Nero.

After nero has been loaded and it appears ,click on the word "NERO" that is in large lettering at top , as that's where you access the update function if nero is not set to autoupdate, failing that you can manually search the home site for your latest update for the software you have installed
NERO OEM 6.6.1.4
NERO DIGITAL 3.1.0.25
NERO MEDIAPLAYER 1.4.0.35
InCD 4.3.23.2
EDIT: There is no need to delete the earlier version just install over

Hi scorpNZ
Since this poster wants to autoburn w/ Shrink they'll need to use version 6.6.0.18. This is the last version of 6 to keep that functionality w/ Shrink.
If trying w/ version 6.6.1.4 you'll receive a TRF error.
Or they can just make it a 2 step process - rip to hard drive then open Nero and burn from there.
Shrink can also autoburn w/ DVD Decrypter and I think it's CopyToDVD.

Ok still having problems. This has nothing to do with heat or fans. Ok the equipment we have below is:
My daughter has: Toshiba laptop, Sony burner, and Nero 6.6.0.14, DVD Shrink
I have: Toshiba laptop(same model as daughter), Sony burner(different model), and Nero 6.6.0.19 and DVD Shrink
We have same laptops, same burners (just different models), same DVD Shrink, and Nero. Daughters burner is 6 months old Sony model DRX-810UL and my Sony model DRX-820U is brand new.
The problem is that when trying with my laptop, my burner, shrink, and Nero 6.6.0.19 dvd's won't burn. They encode then freeze just before burning. Only way to get burner to respond is to turn off then turn back on. The following is the error message received:

We have decreased the burn speed as our laptop will only burn at 8X the speed...we have even decreased the speed down to 4X to see if that would work. We have also uninstalled Nero 6.6.0.19 and used Nero Clean Tool and then installed 6.6.0.18. We have also took the burner back and got another one.
Now we know the burner works because when my daughter and I switch burners, her burner will work with my laptop and my Nero 6.6.0.19 and my burner will work on her laptop with her Nero 6.6.0.14. So does anyone have any suggestions why I can't use my burner on my laptop with my Nero 6.6.0.19 but I can use my burner on my daughters laptop with her Nero 6.6.0.14 and my daughter can use her burner on my laptop with Nero 6.6.0.19? They are the same laptops, the same DVD Shrink, only difference is different Sony model #'s and different Nero versions.
Please help before I have to take my burner back.

All I could locate on the SCSI error is this, it may help
Quote: Normally caused by CD-R or CD-RW media the recorder is unable to work with. Or the media could be defective, dirty or just not compatible with the recorder.
Cables are known to cause this: loose cables, damaged cables, loose power connectors, etc.
Defective recorders are known to cause this. Test with another demo software to rule out software as the cause. If two software programs have the same symptom, your recorder may need service.
If the drive is being polled by another software's driver, it could hang the bus. Uninstall any other CD recording software you may have had on your system, as well as Nero. Then use Registry cleaner software to clean you registry. At last try a fresh install of our latest Nero release.

Just to add to Gwen's post - what's weird is Nero is showing the burner as a DRU-820A not the DRX-820U - 2 different models.
You can try and autoburn w/ DVD Decrypter (free) and Shrink.
http://www.mrbass.org/dvdrip/ Intall Decrypter then go to mode>iso>write. See if the correct burner is recognized there under destination. Choice your burn speed then close decrypter. When you click 'back up' in Shrink under select backup target pick 'iso image file and burn w/ dvd decrypter'.
See if that works.
Since this burner works in your daughters laptop I'm thinking it has something to do with your laptop and whats on it - a driver conflict maybe w/ this burner as gwen's post has.
Also for your Toshiba drive turn DMA back on. Here's a guide if needed:
http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/checking%20DMA.pdf Another thing maybe to post a log from your daughter's laptop w/ this burner to compare.
Oh and edit out your serial # - begins w/ 1A
@ICE42O
Wrong thread - this has nothing to do w/ avi's.

its not a neccessity but see if there ia a difference if you turn the dma on the dvd rom.
Also realistically you dont have much physical memory and as this is laptop which utilises a lot , might upgrade to 512 or 1024 for better performance.

@ ICE42O: instead of hijacking this thread how about you go and start a new one in the newbie forum but before you go, yes you can after you convert it to mpeg2
