I was wondering if any others are using different complimentary software with BenQ burners.

@zebadee
I read in the BenQ scan hall of fame that you do not use QSuite. I was just wondering why. What you use must be considerably better. Also, I was wondering if you could re-enter the lnks to the software that you use instead.

Per docTy and several others, You are one of the top people on this forum to talk to when it comes to questions about BenQ burners.

I have a BenQ 1655. Also, I have the BCDB firmware. I have read that there are at least 2 updates since then. Should I update the firmware? I have had some burns that have little squares show on the screen for just a few seconds like the color is bleading. There is no skip or pause or stopping. I use Sony/TY 8x +Rs most of the time. I burn with Nero 6.6.0.18.

Hi NytBurnr,
Whether using QSuite or not, shouldn't really have that much effect on burns. I tend not to use,therefore don't install it. This has more to do about already having programs that provide the same thing. If you have Nero this http://home.arcor.de/ala42/EnableSolidBurn.reg
will allow you to enable SB/OS via CD/DVDSpeed.
This
http://quikee.cdfreaks.com/WOPC_Tool_1.3.0.rar
allows switching of WOPC on/off.
The reason why my burns are quite good probably has more to do with flashing methods & using .cvt files. Get these files from

@zebadee

Thanks. When you go into CD/DVD speed, do you enable solid burn through the section under options? Extra? I don't see how I can do it. I downloaded the file and answered "yes" to put it in the registry. Where do I go from here? Do I need to re-boot for it to show as an option?

Sorry for the confusion.

I got it. Re-booted and it was fine. Does doing it this way mean that as long as I leave the boxes checked, the burner will remember the media I use? I know if the firmware gets updated, it has to re-learn with QSuite. I am sure that is the case no matter which software you use.

I assume that you think I should update my firmware. Any ideas about the little squares I was talking about. Also, I know this may sound dumb, but what are .cvtfiles?

Hi,
@ NytBurnr.
The clearing of learned memory is a recent thing as owners of the 1640 will know. In the past(once if my memory serves)only if a update was radical did the memory clearing occur. However with the 1650/1655 each f/w update has done this. This may be as a result of experience or maybe changes to SB itself. (Personally I've cleared learned memory before updating for quite some time now. This in part may contribute to my results). Check when a f/w comes out to see if you really need to update. If happy with current f/w & update was for improvements when using DL (& your not using DL). Then you'd not see any benefit, so you might as well stick with the current f/w.
With .cvt files you get just the f/w & have to use a loader seperately. When using .exe it's a loader inc f/w, so just click & go.
These little squares are called digital blocking. Could be caused by problems with source. Make sure disc is clean, scratch free etc. Could be media your writing to. Possibly speed, try dropping this. Another tip is to defrag hd beforehand.

@kivory666

docTY, since you recommended zebadee, I knew he had to be good....

He hit the digital blocking right on the head. I am sure you recall when You and I discussed Sony/TY media, and I mentioned what we both now know as "digital blocking". The disks I was copying were DVDRs that were Memorex. I was worried that the dye was going bad...that is why I was using the Benq and better media to make new backups.

My regular DVD-Rom backups are better now. I am using zebadee's method and controlling Solid Burn via Nero Speed(I also updated to the most recent version of Speed). My scans are looking better.

I am not going to update firmware just yet. As you suggested, I am going to give Solid Burn 50 or so disks and see how it goes.

Thanks again to you both...NB

i don't know if i ever suggested you needed THAT many discs with SolidBurn enabled, 50 is quite high a number...LOL, just being realistic here, i think i mentioned i had burned about 50 or so using the last firmware before i flashed to the new one, i dunno, so many burns, so little time, my memory is not as good as it once was~ :)

good luck and happy burning...i'm all about Taiyo Yuden discs on my Benq 1640/1650s :) (don't have a 1655, lightscribe is just not my "cup of tea")

docTY~

p.s. either way, i don't see SolidBurn making the quality scans WORSE over time with MORE use, the way i look at it, the MORE discs SB "learns" the better! hehe i don't see "breakin' her in" being detrimental in ANY WAY, but that's just MY take on it~
