I downloaded utorrent a couple of days ago and started to download a file. I got about 70% done of a 350MB file when things went all pear shaped. I have an old machine (Windows 98, 5GB hard drive) so I kept an eye on how much of my small hard drive space was being taken by this (to me) relatively big file. (I rarely download anything as huge.)

I don't know whether it came from the torrent, but soon there were viruses left and right, so I deleted the utorrent from my desktop. It's an .exe file, so it didn't intall itself in any of my system or program files.

However, the unfinished torrent download seems to still be clogging my small hard drive. I tried cleaning all files, but the graph of free space/space used (when I left click for properties on my C drive) still holds at the place it stood when I downloaded this file on utorrent. It seems to be still on my drive somerlace. I've looked into every file and folder. Does anybody know where such an unfinished download would hide out on a PC?

They're in the folder where uTorrent downloads its files. If you didn't change it, it's probably still the default -- I don't know what that is. It might be in my documents, or the desktop, or just the c drive.

Hey, an easy way to find the folder is download uTorrent again. Get it from the official utorrent.com site. It's not going to have any viruses. After you start it up, go to preferences, and click "folders" on the left. It should display what folder uTorrent puts downloaded files.

Thanks Ashrove01, I tried your suggestion. When I clicked preferences and looked into the folders option, utorrent did not list any preset default folder where it would store any files.

I've looked into folders suck as C:\Windows/System, various application folders, folders for media types, but still can't find it. It's eating up about 270 mb of my tiney old hard disc.

I just checked again. No, it doesn't show anything in the line you indicate. The space is just grey. I can click around, but no download directory or default dowload directory is listed. I'm using Windows 98.
