Yep this is it.
The one drive is still not in DMA mode - if your reading from this drive could be one reason taking 1½ hrs.
It's this drive -the one I think you installed:
CdRomPeripheral : PHILIPS DVD+-RW DVD8631 atapi Port 0 ID 1 DMA: Off
Try again using the guide. You can check the mode either in device manager or in Nero ToolKit>InfoTool under the configuration tab.
If that's doesn't work check your connections and make sure the jumper is set to slave for this drive.
You drive now recognizes the media better after the Nero update - CMC. Definitely time for some Taiyo's or Verbs at least :)
No traces on Roxio left either.
Are your still having a problem w/ iTunes?

For some reason it still changes back to PIO mode even after I change it and uninstall the drivers. After I restart though it doesn't say anything about recognizing a new drive. I went to download the drivers and it said something about whatever I was gonna update is older than I already have. Hmmmmmmm. What to do?

Okay let's try uninstalling the drive's driver (further down in the guide) then reboot and windows will pick it up and do it's thing. You'll pick the PHILIPS DVD+-RW DVD8631 in device manager under dvd/cd rom drives.
After that it's check the connection & jumper settings time - make sure secure and correct.

Sorry I haven't checked back in with the thread in the last day or 2. But I uninstalled the drivers and such but it never prompted me to reboot like the original burner did. I rebooted anyway but nothing popped up about recognizing a new drive or anything. But it appears to be installed and recognized and such. And when I checked for the DMA mode it didn't say PIO but on DEVICE 1 it did say "CURRENT TRANSFER MODE: PIO MODE and the other said "NOT APPLICABLE". I haven't tried a burn since then b/c I haven't had any new movies but I will have some today so I will give it a shot and see what kinda time I get.

Hi Steve7481
At some point your should get this drive back into DMA mode instead of PIO (slow) mode. DMA is a more effecient/faster transfer mode and requires very little of the CPU unlike PIO mode.
So something could be up with the drive, settings, cable etc on why it won't go into DMA mode.
When ever you want to try & troubleshoot this further - just let us know!

Well I did a burn the other day. Still taking close to an hour and a half but at least no errors. I checked to see if the drives were still in DMA mode and one of them is still saying that the CURRENT TRANSFER MODE is PIO but the drop-down is set to DMA.

Well at least you're getting them burned now. Now if we can get the one drive in DMA mode to speed things up for you.
Check and make sure this drive's (PHILIPS DVD+-RW DVD8631) jumper is set to 'slave'. Check and make sure the ide cable (ribbon) is connected securely.
We can go from there.

Yeah at least I am burning without errors. Thank god and thanks SO much for working with me on this issue for the last week and then some.
Back to the issue. I made sure the drive was set to slave and it was. Also the cable was connected fine. I did notice something though that might be an issue b/c it relates to Roxio. Here is a screenshot:

The Roxio is a driver with a error message. May be causing a conflict.
I'm guessing you didn't install Roxio again?
Run a registry cleaner to try & fix any conflicts. Sone some members here use ccleaner - free. I use Registry Mechanic but I don't know how good their free trial is. Here's links for both:

Well I ran a registry clean-up and defrag using Tuneup Utilities 2006. Cleaned up some stuff but that same thing is still showing. When I double click and such it does give me the option the uninstall the driver. Should I do that?

You can - it's giving you a warning and may be corrupted. You've uninstalled Roxio and ran the clean tool right?
Did you ever get iTunes working?

Yeah iTunes is running smooth as butter. I'll uninstall the driver and then run another registry cleaner and I still have that Roxio Zap thing as well. I gotta work in a few though so I'll do it when I get home and check back in the morning.

See how that goes. You may have another program that's using this driver but if so you would get an error if it needed to access it. Like Sonic or MyDVD may use this driver but I'm not sure.
For the registry cleaner I normally run it after I uninstall something or every so often.
You'd be surprised what kind of crap progs leave even after they're uninstalled!
