Dear Afterdawn readers and posters...

I am following all these treads, especcialy about new movies, protections etc.
For those who like to be just as happy as I am, try the simpel way, no more coasters, no more frustrations.

I used Shrink since the beginning, why? it is simple and compateble.
For the decoding part I used DVD43 , BUT since Sony came along, I had to switch... All these forums, all these "free" downloads etc...
I finally came to the conclusion that AnyDVD works. Especially the new download, directly from their website.
Now NERO has problems, I've seen that in many discussion groups, forums and here in the Afterdawn.
So i installed a older version of NERO and guess what? It works.

I have to say, There are some minusses in Shrink, for example the subtitels and or Re-author. Many dvd's froze.
So why not a full back-up, with less audio options, and also that works.

Anyway, AnyDVD + Shrink + Nero (older version) and a P4 works fine.

For the statistics,.... after back-upping 187 dvd's I only had 3 coasters (failure in Nero) and 2 disk Shrink could't handle, mostly of the quality of the original disk (Shrink is not really great at restoring older or dammaged disks).

And YES,....I had to find the Magic mix of readers/writers.
For those who are interested, I use a USB LG DVD+/- (supermulti) for all the reading. (fast, secure and believe it or not, reads broken disks perfect)
And for the writing part i use a Lite-on. I back-up in DVD-R.

I hope this was usefull info,

Never attempted to put a broken disc in my drive. Are u serious when you say your burner reads these disks with no errors. Only reason I'm asking is I've came across several broken DVD's Dumpster Diving at BB and never have I tried to Decrypt one of these discs.

AnyDVD works fine with just about every program, but for those who cannot afford AnyDVD and Nero the free programs of DVDFab Decrypter, DVD Shrink, VobBlanker and DVD Decrypter/ImgBurn will also get the job done too.

As reaction on the broken disks..... my girlfriend broke my x-rated collection, and out of desperation....i had to try!
(i used a cd-label sticker to hold them together) Don't ask me what the quality was afterwards, with the option "skip bad sections" the final result was that all the juicy parts on the movie where missing LOL.

As reaction on the DVDFab, there are disk out there this programm couldn't handle. For example Casanova.

@LLTTM.... DVDFAb was updated on 5/26 and should easily do Casanova. DVDFab is prety good at keeping it's programs updated. I'd be surprised if it couldn't do Casanova! There wasn't any special encryption on that at all! I used AnyDVD on that one and AnyDVD wasn't updated this week for that dvd! Usually when AnyDVD gets updated that's when DVDFab gets updated.

Mabey you're right, i should look into a DVDFab update, and try it again. Altough, many threads where talking about this particulary movie "Casanova" that most decrypters and schrinkers come with a kind of message "structure invalid".

Even my direct "dubber" came with a message about a kind of structure...

AnyDvd worked. DvdFab failed.

Anyhow, i will look into updating en trying it out.

IHoe...

I am very proud to tell you I dumpster dive at BB. I get free DVD cases from there and alot of other cool stuff like DVD's and Playstation games. You must have me all wrong because I don't steal personal information from the trash. I'm not looking for credit card info or your name and adress. Just looking for cases.
