Hi,
I can't figure out how to do this. I keep finding articles that say to use the xbox compatibility option in Nero 7, but that's only available for DVD rom(UDF/ISO). It's not available for DVD video. I'm trying to burn movies, not games. When I try to drag/drop the video_ts folder into the compilation under the DVD-Rom option, Nero says that I'm trying to use a format that is not playable as video, or it just says "unexpected file extension."
When I burn DVD-video, it doesn't work on the xbox, obviously.
I am completely new to this. I could really use step-by tep instructions. I expected it to be as easy as burning a CD-R. Stupid me.
I find it terribly ironic that Microsoft would put out a gaming product with a "dvd player" that is not compatible with DVD's burned on a PC using their own OS, while playstation-a non Microsoft product-can play them. but that's beside the point I guess.

Hi Crystalan
In burning rom you would use the DVD-Video option and drag the video_ts folder over like your tried.
If it's not playing - than this could be because of the brand of discs your using and/or burn speed.
So what brand are you using and burn speed?
Players can be picky. Does the disc playback in a standalone or your pc?
If your burner supports booktyping - booktype a +r to DVD-Rom. This increases the compatibility. What's the make and model of your drive?

hi-I've tried using philips and TDK dvd-r's-that was all that I could find in my area. They play in a friend's regualr DVD player and on my PC, but not in the xbox (this is a problem because we use the xbox as our "house" dvd player).
My burner is an hp dvd 420i.
I found an article somewhere else that said dvd-video doesn't work in most xboxes, to use the udf/iso dvd-rom feature on Nero-with no further explanation. So I paid to upgrade Nero so I would have the "force xbox compatibility" option, only to find that I cannot figure out how ON EARTH to make a video DVD with that option. *grr*

Can't help ya on the "force xbox compatibility" option - may be a game thing - don't know.
But the DVD's not playing sounds more like a compatibility issue. I play my back up's (not a lot) in an Xbox or PS2 but they do play in them w/o this option. They can be picky though.

Your drive's last firmware update was 12/04 and is version # 1.33. To check which version you have go to Nero ToolKit>InfoTool and the drive tab. There's a field there for firmware version.
If it's an early version update to the latest. Here's a link:

Make sure this is update - helps the drive w/ the read/write strategies on media.
Your drive is made by NEC and should support booktyping in Nero. But you'll need +R discs for that.

The other problem may be the discs you using - iffy and don't also use the best manufacturers. So take the burn speed down a notch or 2 and see if that helps.
Better ones to try would be Verbatim or made in Japan Fuji, Sony or Maxell.
Don't know where your located but someone here probably knows where to get some quality stuff in your area or online.

Ok, I figured it out-yipee!
My husband had burned the first two-he told me he "used Nero." I stupidly assumed he knew how to use it. He burned one to DVD-ROM and the other as a regular DVD-but he had just added the files to the root of the disk, not in the Video_TS folder. So we had an empty folder and a bunch of useless files. I discovered this when I looked at the contents of the disk in explorer. I updated the drive and then burned again-using Nero Vision instead of the burning rom-and it worked! I'm pretty sure it was the WAY he was doing it-of course the PC could read it as a data disk, and it turns out the stand alone player we used to test it is capable of recognizing data disks as well. Of course, it could also be that the drive needed to be updated, or that Nero Vision is magical. At any rate, we figured it out-thanks for all your help, I really appreciate it. Now all I need are some good ear plugs, since we're on our third screening of "Bambi" today, lol.

Oh, I just realized that bambi reference may have made no sense. our whole goal here was to burn saved copies of my 3 year old's DVD's (which he has destroyed) so he could watch them in the living room. Sorry about that.

lol - nah I got the Bambi bit :) No problem on the help.
Glad to hear you got it playing on the xbox!
Depending on how your rip the dvd's to your pc - Nero's Recode may be the way to go. Much faster and is made just for doing this type of thing.
If you need any further help let us know.
Happy Burning!
