Hello :)

I wonder if anyone can help. I work for a small company and we are looking for a method of converting the video files from a DVD into the smallest file size video file that we can. This is because we need to move the video files across a network. Ideally we would like to use an application that has an API set of allows command line use.

Please note that the DVD's we wish to convert are not commerical discs such as film releases. We create the DVD's with another application from a video source. There is no issue of any copyright infringement.

So basically I am after:
1. An application to convert DVD video files into another video format
2. The resulting video file should be small (if possible) in file size. (loss of quality is not a major issue)
3. API or Command line support

Any ideas?

Thanks in advanced, Deskjob :)

VSO has many compression and conversion tools available. I'm don't know if it will allow for command prompt or API handling, but it's worth a shot...here is ConvertXtoDVD:

Thanks, but I am actually after something to rip from DVD, not to burn to DVD :)

This is why I suggested what I did.

As I know, DVDFab Decrypter cannot compress DVDs. It just removes the protections from DVDs. The output file would be as large as the original DVDs.

I suggest you use AoA DVD Ripper. By converting the DVD to DivX/AVI format, you'll get the output file which takes up about 1/10 original DVD space. And the quality is pretty good.

You may follow the instructions below.

1. Please download and install DivX codec. http://www.x-kit.com/codec/DivX511Bundle.exe .
2. Set the output format as AVI (DivX, Xvid..).
3. Set the avi video codec as DivX. (settings >> AVI Setting >> Video Codec).
