i recently converted a 174mb (24 min) file to kvcd with winavi. but the final product is not in bin/cue format but mpg format and it is larger (213mb).
what is the correct way to convert avi to kvcd with winavi?
i wish to convert four 174 mb shows to kvcd so i can watch them on tv.

The WinAVI always give you .mpg when you convert to KVCD.And it can't support bin.
Maybe you can make some set in the advanced setting,eg.by speed preference,by lower quality.
good luck

A good choice is:
- download TMPGenc 2.5 (which is free, unless you need to load or encode MPEG-2 files, that is: S(K)VCD, (K)DVD files)
- download the proper templates from http://kvcd.net/dvd-models.html (see also, in the 'AVI to DVD FAQ, the thread http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/124272 )
- put the extra templates in \Template directory of TMPGenc 2.5
- encode AVI --> KVCD with TMPGenc + the extra templates. You'll need to 'guess a proper value for Q [KVCD means CQ = Constant Quality encoding, and the link Q <--> size is movie's dependent. There are some tools for it, though, even if ther were born to 'fit' a full movie on a 80' CD-R, and not to find Q(size).
You can try to leave the default Q value (60) and to see if it is acceptable.
Ah, you'll have to manually create the MP2 audio (usually 128 kbps instead of the 'standard' 224 kbps) and to multiplex it to the M1V video with TMPGenc [as written in my thread, using as 'type': Video-CD (non standard)].
I hope this helped....

yes, open up the file in VCDgear convert to mpeg then convert to XviD with AutoGK or VirtualDub, but i dont see the point because you wont gain any quality but instead lose some quality.

BETTER Late then never..Just take your mpeg file & in Nero burn it as a SVCD.THAT IS PROVIDED it is the 800meg catagory that it should, anything over I think[850meg]is to big.Just tell Nero yes to all error & non compliant questions & burn this is how u make a KVCD,CVCD,XVCD,ete,etc,etc...ALL WILL BE WELL

freetrips...U do sound like a commercial..Ya don't mention what U R trying to convert or to what.Just programs to convert with
These programs [tools] just to mention a few
IFOEdit
VirtualDub
CloneDVD
VSO CopyToDVD
DrDivX
DVD Decrypter
DVD Shrink
are er-replaceable,I doubt very much that the program that U mention can take the place of all these & do what they do,with the speed & qualities
I'm not being sarcastic,I'm just making a statement. An old cliche [if it ain't broke don't fix it].I like a lot of others here have been doing this for a long time.I personaly have not found an all in wonder program, that does what I want or need at a specific point in any type of conversions

freetrips..I thank U for the time U spent,it takes time & consideration of others to pass on any info on products [old or new].But I feel U over stared the prog just a tad as to what progs it replaces.I'll definetly give it a try the next time I need to convert to mpeg. But mostly I keep AVI format, they play well on my DVD Player.IFoEdit I use to re-create VIDEO_TS.BUP & IFO,This is when I use DVD Decrypter to extract just the VOB's.Your not going to beat DVD Shrink or Clone DVD2 for ripping a DVD.As far as converting to DVD VSO DivXtoDVD IS A GREAT LITLLE PROGRAM.I just finished 5[avi eps]of Prison Break on 1DVD 3 1/2 HRS it took 2 1/2 HRS to convert & burn. Not only does it ad chapters, but broke it into individual segments. So if U watch Ep 1&2 today U can skip right to Ep 3 tomorrow. If this new program does all that I've mentioned, then it is a fantastic asset.1 other thing, most if not all programs can be optained on the NET
