Hi, when I burn my AVI files to a DVD using Nero Vision, I always choose to compress it to a regular DVD-R and then burn. Usually it does all of the settings automatically, but one I'm not sure about is:

"High Quality (2-Pass VBR)"

Should I be using that one or the default one? Will it change the output size or will it just result in better quality? What exactly does it mean/do?

I leave all of the other settings their default after NeroVision notifies me that "The project will require a DVD9 disc unless it is compressed. Would you like to automatically compress the DVD to fit standard DVD-R?". After saying Yes to that, I keep it's settings, but I was just wondering about the 2-Pass VBR thing

Thanks!

alkohol recommends these settings, it takes a little longer to transcode though, according to him it gives a better quality result. I have used it a couple of times and personally couldnt see the difference, I am NOT saying there isn't an improvement in quality, just that I couldn't see it.

Alright, for an average 700MB AVI file, how MUCH longer would you say this option will take?

how long does it take normally for you.if its an hour for a simple conversion from AVI to mpeg2 then for the 2 pass encoding for quality etc, you would probably look at coming back in maybe 3 hours or so depending on the resources of your pc.The better the resources the quicker it will seem to be
