Hello, I have just started making copies of my DVD's and I am now using DVD Decryptor saving to Hard DRive and then burning with it or Nero. This way I am having to use the Dual Layer DVD which are kind of expensive. I have hear about the DVD Shrink program from a friend along with the introduction to this site. My question is how is the quality of the DVD with the DVD Shrink method, what I am doing now is doing a fairly good job, but am having very small imperfections with the copies; but overall they are turning out pretty well using Verbatim Dual Layer DVD's. If used properly does the DVD shrink program produce a good copy if the compression stays small.

Hi bullgod5
Keeping the compression minimal you probably won't notice any difference. I try and keep mine around 70% or higher.
Since you have Nero if you have the full version you'll probably have Recode.
Almost like Shrink - it just can't do copy protected movies. Since your ripping w/ Decrypter than that would take care of that problem.
With both programs you can remove audio, do movie only to keep the compression low.
What small imperfections do you have w/ the dual layer back ups?

Well, it's all about comprimise. To save the space on the file, you'll have to either remove extras and unneeded audio or special features or compress the video, losing quality in the process. The more you compress the video, the more quality you are going to use. I use a tool called DVD2One V2 and it's really fast and will remove everything but the main movie, usually keeping the original quality of the double-layered movie or requiring minimal compression, leaving me with the best possible quality on one disc. DVD Shrink is similar to this program, but it takes hours and quality is usually pretty shabby after all that time. There are many more professional tools for DVD authoring, but I'm not too familiar with them. Hope this helps.

yes DVD Shrink does keep the quality pretty good but you want to use "Deep Analysis" for the best results doing the movie only as said to keep the compression down as low as you can .and its def. cost effective being the DLs are about 2 bucks a piece compared to the SL at under 30 cents. or theres different programs with better quality like CloneDVD 2 with AnyDVD or Intervideo DVDCopy 4 use the free trials and see if you like them you can download some different programs here and theres a guide to use them

Shrink is a good program still, and I have never ran into a disc that took "hours" using it. With either shrink or CloneDVD if the compression falls below 70 percent or so after removing all the unwanted junk, then I'll use DL.

The quality of movies using shrink is fine as long as compression is not too high.
