A friend gave me a Gateway KAD-K7-700 desktop computer. Windows is very screwed up, DLL files missing everywhere. I want to reformat and put XP on it but I can't get into the BIOS. I have hit every key I can think of from the delete key to every function key. Any one have any ideas. Thanks in advance for the advice.
When are you pushing the DEL key?.....And i assuming you want to get into the BIOS to make it so you can boot from CD? Because thats the only reason i see that you would need to go into the BIOS for that reason
I have seen a few BIOS with some strange key combos if you have already tried DEL, ESC, and the Function keys.
Try thse as well
Insert
Control + Escape
Alt + Escape
Control + Alt + Escape
Control + Alt + Enter
Do you know what bios you have? Phoenix, VIA, or something else?
Via doesn't make BIOSes? Sure they do (glances at the wife's VIA P4XB-SA motherboard). They might not be as popular as Award, AMI, or Phoenix but the do exist. EPIA boards and several Mini-ITX boards have Via BIOSes too.
from via site "BIOS are designed specific to each motherboard. VIA can only supply BIOS The Basic Input/Output System is the program that microprocessors use to start computer systems. It manages data flow between the computers operating system and attached devices such as the hard disk, video card, keyboard, mouse, and printer. for VIA branded mainboards. They are available here. For all other mainboards based on VIA chipsets, please contact your motherboard manufacturer. Quick links to web sites can be found in the motherboards section of this web site."

Yep, exactly what I was saying. Her's is a VIA branded motherboard with VIA BIOS.
From your link:
VIA can only supply BIOS for VIA branded mainboards.
No big deal since the OP probably doesn't have one of those anyway since his is a Gateway KAD-K7-700. I just thought it strange that you said they don't make them when I have a PC sitting in front on me with one.
