Exactly. Before I decided to get my A8N5X I did a buttload of research and chose the best for the money. I am extremely satisfied with my purchase but I plan on getting a better Crossfire based board when the new ATi cards decide to appear.

No crossfire setup. Just a board because I love the high-end features. The X2800XT is my choice though. It'll be more than powerful enough to run any game that comes out in the next few years.
I hope 400W is a gross exaggeration. Because even the most power-hungry SLi set-ups are about 110W on their own. You can actually buy a seperate power supply just for Sli video. It's 150W and very high quality. My friend uses it with his dual 7900GTs.

If you're just after the features get an SLi board like me, the chipset is better! I run a single ATI card, and it always will be single, but picked an A8N-SLi due to how good it is.
No I'm not joking about 400W, R600 and G80 are going to be monsters in the power department. Your friend's 7900GT setup will be about 130W I suppose because 7900GTs are very efficient. My singular X1900XT will put out three figures at full load, and with two you're probably lookins at about 250W worth. R600 will be far worse than that.

I see your point on the motherboards. I think I might hit up an SLi instead. Because, truthfully, I'll never have need for two video cards.
And, wow. I guess I never stopped to see how much power my X850XT sucks. But If you are right, another 400W Liberty just for my video card might not be out of the question.

Well, could be that that you need, some people are making 5 1/4" bay power supplies, some are making external boxes that have a sealed connector going in via a backplate, that then turns into 6-pin connectors, and rumour has it, we may possibly see external graphics cards!!! Imagine that, buying an X2800XT in a plastic box, a wire goes into your PC to connect to the PCI express 16x connector! And better yet, you can take your X2800XT with you and plug it into your laptop!
Well, we'll see, but a lot of stuff Tom's Hardware has written has happened, so it may not be as strange as we think...

Video cards outside the box? Sounds cool but it's unlikely. It isn't really viable beacuse of the PCIe slot itself. What kind of device would plug into that over and over without damaging it. And laptops don't use a real PCIe slot. It's a specialized slot for moblie graphics.(Yeah, I have to rip your comments apart.) Would be pretty cool though :P
Tom's Hardware is also a bit wonkie IMO. I don't really like them except for their CPU and GPU reference charts.
I'm waiting patiently for the X2800XT though because it and an AMD 3 or a 4400+ Toledo are my next purchase. I'm going all out and getting top performance right off.

I'm thinking a huge price drop is in order for the X1000 series. I'm gonna get an X1800GTO for my Sempron rig methinks. It's way bottlenecked by it's X800GTO.
Any guesses on prices for the X2800XT? Maybe $600? $700 at most. But it'll rock for sure. If the X1900 is as great as it is, Then the X2800 has got to be even better. Can anyone say 1600 x 1200 at max on Oblivion? It's gotta look pretty sweet :)

Very good indoors but close to being very uncomfortable in heavily forested areas. Just like I get but a (wee) bit higher. lol
You'd do fine at top res in max settings but you will definitely get slowdown on some sections.

I'm amazed at how little that benchmark varies in fps based on resolution. If you get practically the same fps at 2560x1600 as 1280x768, something tells me it's not the Graphics card that's doing all the work, the CPU is. With the exception of the higher speed Elven Catacombs area, the speed seems CPU restricted rather than GPU restricted. Might be why Crossfire and SLi don't do an awful lot as well.

Might just be. Oblivion does seem to be pretty CPU dependant. It really jumped in performance when I decided to OC.

Yeah, that pretty much settles it then. Not good for someone still running a stock 4200+ (so as far as Oblivion cares, a stock 3500+). Could be a lot worse, but could be better, but as I say, I'm reluctantly leaving OCing till later.

Actually, Oblivion takes performance boosts from Dualies. So you are more like a 3800+ to it.

Get it. It's way worth it. A bit overwhelmingly huge, but so deep and addicting.
Atleast it doesn't leave you hanging like ES3: Morrowind did. You'd do the first mission then It would leave you to figure out where to go next. I used a walkthrough and it still took me like 40+ hours. Half the time I was like, "Huh, why should I go there?"

Yeah. Oblivion is much more story oriented. And it gives you one solid task instead of leaving you to figure out a big fat mystery like Morrowind did.
Besides that, run it on 1280 x 1024 with HDR and you'll know the true meaning of beauty. It's an insanely beautiful game :)
