The date on the ASPI32.sys is 1997, and since there is a question mark next to ATAPI detected, is it really being used? Maybe drop Nero a line and ask them.
All my Nero logs will show the question mark after the atapi and as for the aspi, Nero 7 uses SPTI. From what I gather and I would have to look this up, I read it somewhere. The list of drivers on the bottom only shows something that may possibly conflict with Nero. I could be wrong, lol, I often am
For this Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ? For me one pc shows this - another pc doesn't. So far the only difference between the 2 is one's on a 40 wire ide and the other 80 wire but I doubt that's the reason. Haven't gotten around to changing to the 80 wire yet (have it - just being lazy :)
Yes Blinkie7, I have that info. It is out of date and concerns Nero 5 and burning a CD only. I would think many settings would be different if they did one for Nero 7 and a large DVD-video compilation.
My question concerns the aspi32.sys file and whether it could be causing problems. Another log I looked at showed an aspi driver and there was no question mark, so I must assume this driver is not even being used. Could it be causing problems anyway and if so, maybe rename it to check. The fact there is a question mark does not matter, but the fact there is an aspi driver and a question mark might.
You can also use the info tool to check the ASPI setup. I have the question mark and mine says "system aspi not installed", but the Nero ASPI is and working properly.
This is just my opinion, but unless you are specifically using a program that need aspi, it is not necessary with XP and has caused some troubles for users. There is conflicting data on whether it is needed, but since XP uses SPTI and Nero has its own, the installation of aspi is a moot point. Only a few older programs may demand the use of an aspi, otherwise most newer programs have gone with SPTI to conform to Microsoft, who doesn't. Here is an article on it aspi, the user can make there own decisions on whether to install.
Yes it probably could cause a conflict.
Just from the logs I've seen and by members posting back their results their problem usually gets resolved without having to get into aspi unless they show as corrupt.
Now you have me really curious on the ? mark though!!
I don't have these addt'l aspi drivers installed either. No need.
arniebear - I'm getting a 404 error on your last link!!
