If I use dvdshrink to rip the same way, eg, 1 min from 1 dvd, then another 1 min segment from another dvd, what would be the easiest way to splice them together, then convert into an mpg or XviD? I as well ripped part of a dvd once, wayyyy back, and recall using virtual dub. not sure if I'm on the right track. suggestions?

using dvd2avi you can put them all together and then convert that file to avi using vfapi codec/plugin
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/codecs_and_filte... load that avi into virtual dub and then just select the encoding options you prefer and xvid as compression and youre done.
Alternitavely you could rip the whole movie to avi and then edit the avi with virtualdub but thats more time so not most convinient method

in DVD2AVI, I open the .VOB file I ripped which is about 2 min. I tried selecting audio options, but am unsure of which to use. I looked online for guides, but they didn't seem to help. It rips the audio into a separate file. So the AVI plays after conversion, but with no sound. How can I get around this?

I guess I should move this to the divx/other section. Not sure how to do that either!
Ok, so I loaded up virtual dubmod. The VOB was 22MB, the wav was about 22MB as well. The virtual dubmod didn't seem to have a spot to select what audio compression to use. Didn't they used to have a spot to make it mp3 to reduce file size?
bottom line: is there an easier way to convert vobs into AVI? This seems like a very tedious process. I wouldn't mind paying a small amount for a solution.

You can open the .IFO files (if DVD Shrink made any) with AutoGK and its very easy to use.
BTW you can compress wav to mp3 using besweet lite, or using VirtualDub by rightclicking compression.

ok, well, thx for the help. in the end, here's what worked, if it helps anyone else:
rip section of film with DVDShrink, open DVD2AVI, point to the .VOB file, save to desktop. it saves an AVI and a wav file. use dbpoweramp to right-click and convert the wav to an mp3, use VirtualDub mod to open the AVI, go to streams, streamlist, add the mp3, save as AVI, and it plays all synched, perfectly. I used XviD compression, number 6 and the quality looked great.
I tried AutoGK which seemed simpler at first, and was more of a 'one button' deal, but it seemed to take a lot longer. either way, it's free, and both ways work.
