ok ummmm.... hmmm... let me see how to start?
I am a newbie...
to forums
i have never been to one!
bcus....
i could never wait for a reply
and i didn't know what they were!
(after you have stopped laughing please read on)
ok he is my prob.
i have a 2mb unlimited broadband connection with tiscali i DONT have router i have a MODEM and its a 'Sagem f@st 800-840' and i have been using bittorrents for about a month now and can use them pretty efficiently as long as the client is bittornado.
well here is the problem i now use bitcomet and i got ridiculous speeds like 2kbs a second upload and 1kbps download!
with bittornado i get, during the night, around about 100-700 kbs depending on the torrent whats wrong?
i haev tried configuring the upload download speed i kno that up speed affects down speed and all the tedious technicalities but y?
wats wring with bcomt? y so slow? i want fast now i have NO ROUTER i have MODEM and 2MB tiscali unlimited boradband so please tell me how to exploit this bloody connection!!!!!

It's probably because BitComet sucks...
Do yourself (and us) a favor, and switch to Utorrent or Azureus, or ABC (aka yet Another Bittorrent Client).

Bitcomet is ok!
but i like BitTornado better only problem is that it is only efficient during the night.
i have tried many a clients azerus, bittorrent, and all the rest bla blah blah they all seem to give me downloads speeds of up to 1 kbp.

BitComet is good you say?
Then why oh why has it been banned from use by almost all reputable private torrent sites ?
As for my advice, take it or leave it...
I will ask you another question though, what firewall (if any) are you using?

As to the problem..what port are you trying to use? Try one above 22457 and please do everybody a favour and get a decent BT client.
The fastest you can hope for out of a 2meg link is about 254kb/s, maybe Tiscali are limiting bandwidth for what they see as "illegal" BT activity..if so try turning the encryption on (what's that??) so they can't detect what is a BT packet and what's not... I just been reading about this very issue with BT Broadband (yes the phone ripoff people) using packet sniffer technology to find out what you are downloading/uploading...on a private torrent site.
The word is that it's illegal to do this because if your connection is sold as unlimited..then that's what it means..unlimited, But they are relying on the fact that as a user of bittorrent technology you aren't going to exactly be too keen on taking them to court for breach of contract.. my 25 cents...now I need to make another coffee and clean my monitor...
Of course it could just be that you are chosing crap torrents from yeildmanaged trackers...theres a lot of those listed on isohunt

i did and none of them seemed to be simple enough for me to understand OR they tell me the wrong thing for example: i ask how can i configure my modem for faster bittorrent download speeds? and all i get is lots of steps and tips all telling me how to port forward through my router I DONT HAVE ROUTER FOR GODS sake!
so thats why i set up a new thread.
