i have pics from my digital camera that wont open in my windows pictures and fax viewer or photoshop elements 3. i can still view them in a windows folder as thumbnails. when i try to edit them in paint i get a message saying "paint cannot read this file this is not a valid bitmap file. or its format is not currently supported. this all barely started happing i was able to view them regularly not to long ago ...anyone please help.....thnx

hi iam having the same prob i got pics from a grt hol in kenya ,had about 50 which all opened fine when i 1st put them on the comp(jpegs),now only 3 will open,the rest give the same cant open message like the 1st poster.
this is also happening with video files. (WMV) i have some films in sections which all used to play now some do some dont,out of 5 clips 2 play,they are all same format and used to work.this is very worrying as i have a very large collection of clips and films i dont want to lose.
i keep them all on a 3oogb second hard drive so backing up is not a real option.
what is causing this and can i repair the corrupt files????
