Hi guys. I am using Nero express 6.3.0.2 and have successfully burned dvds in the past but I burned 3 dvds today and when I popped them into my standalone dvd player it had perfect video quality but no sound. If I play one of the dvds on my pc it has perfectly functioning audio.
Thank you for your time and patience.

Hello megaman32.

Please post the section of your NeroHistory log for this burned disk. If it's the last one you burned, it'll be the last section of your log. Log sections begin:

===== Nero Burning ROM Nero History =====
program serial number

Delete the program serial number and any other identifying info before posting.

The log is in this path:

Program Files -> Ahead -> Nero -> NeroHistory

Yes, you posted the log just fine, megaman.

I don't see any obvious problems from the log. Your burner doesn't have any firmware updates available. It appears orphaned. It may be crossflashable to one of the other Lite-On drives. But that's not the problem here.

12X is a pretty fast burning speed. Usually we try to limit burn speed to half or less of the rated media speed.

Are other DVDs you burned playing OK in the standalone now?

Have you changed brands or types of media recently?

You stated when you played one of the DVDs on the PC the audio was fine. What about the other two you burned?

Is the audio format AC3 on the burned DVDs? You cab open them in DVD Shrink to see the audio streams.

Did you press the audio button on the player's remote to cycle the audio tracks? The TV hopefully wasn't muted?

I installed the only available firmware upgrade I could find from liteon yesterday. I think it updated me from as04 to as06.

I think that Nero displayed it as burning at 8x speed. I can slow it down to 4x if you think thatll make a difference. [quote=laddyboy]Are other DVDs you burned playing OK in the standalone now?
The last 2 that I burned before my most recent 3 played well in ALL of my standalones. I have 4 standalones. [quote=laddyboy]Have you changed brands or types of media recently?
I WAS using maxell 8x DVD-R. My newest stack of DVD's are Memorex 16x DVD-R. I thought that this could be the problem because, when I first tried to burn a memorex 16x, Nero failed due to the media type. Then I upgraded my firmware and Nero burned them without sound. [quote=laddyboy]You stated when you played one of the DVDs on the PC the audio was fine. What about the other two you burned?
All three play perfectly with audio on my pc. [quote=laddyboy]Is the audio format AC3 on the burned DVDs? You cab open them in DVD Shrink to see the audio streams.

I will check this with DVD Shrink. I tried pressing audio on one of my dvd remotes but it had no effect. I checked to see if the tv was muted, thankfully it was not.

I think I must have mixed up your log with another member's. You were indeed burning at 8X and not 12X as I stated previously. You can try slowing down to 4X.

You are a little lucky in that Memorex media can be poor in quality overall. They only use one manufacturer's media that's halfway decent and that is Ridata's Ritek which is what you seem to have. Even then, I don't think Ritek is all that good. It used to be. I have some of it, but it doesn't provide the same quality burns for me as other media like Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden, and MIJ Fuji and Sony. It may be the source of the problem but that isn't obvious at this point.

What was the source for your burned DVDs. Are these backed up DVDs or DVDs from AVIs? If you are backing up DVDs, we need to try a different approach to attempt to isolate the problem.

I read Nero Express as Nerovision Express, dumb me. Do you have the full version of Nero or just the "lite" version that comes with burners? It needs to be updated. The most stable Nero 6 version is 6.6.0.18 and can be found here:

I have the full version of Nero, but I will upgrade as you recommend. The source for my DVD's is .AVI files. I used convertxtodvd and then burned them with Nero.

Thanks laddy, you have REALLY been nice.
