hey guys, i have a sony vaio pcg-k23 with the stock graphics (64mb) and memory cards (512 mb). i am looking to upgrade them to gain some better performance out of my laptop. i would like to have something around a 1gb memory card but i do not know which on will work with my laptop, refering to the number of pins that card needs ect. also i know absolutly nothing about graphics card so i am open to suggestions on this topic. i only want to pay around 100-150 dollars for the graphics card.
thanks in advance guys

Well if you can add RAM then go with this one. You should check if there is a RAM slot available.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820155106 As for upgrading your graphics card on your laptop, I think you are stuck with the one it came with. Unless you are really experienced with laptops, then go for it. The Radeon mobility 9800 is the best one out there, I think. I think you should just upgrade the memory since laptops aren't really meant for gaming unless you have an expensive modeled one.

deffinitly not very experierenced with laptops or computer tech for that matter. kind of just wanted to upgrade the video because i occasionally watch dvds on the comp when all of the other tvs are being used so i would enjoy the better graphics.

ok, i pulled off the cover of the laptop to expose the memory cards and it is using dual 256's. 256MB,DDR,266,CL2. they are also PC2100. so that brings me to the questions of since they are PC2100 do i have to other memory sticks that are PC2100's or can i upgrade to something like a PC2700 or 3200? also do they have to be 266 or can i also upgrade that to like a 333 or something a little bit higher? looking to buy a couple of 512s here in the next day or so information on this would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance guys.

main question was would something like a PC2700 or PC3200 series work. also would memory that is running at 333 mhz instead of 266 work?

will the laptop be even faster if i do use memory that is higher than pc2100 or does that have nothing to do with speed? also, when i do replace them, i should be able to just pop the origonal two out and pop the new two in and turn the laptop on with no problem, correct?

if the board is designed to run only at 266 speed than newer ram that is faster will still be at 266 speed. should be just plug & play.

so i will be safe buying something that isnt at 266MHz? if i buy two sticks that are lets say 400MHz, they will still work in the laptop but there is the chance that they laptop will default to the 266Mhz? because if 400Mhz will still work i will probably purchase them that way if the laptop will work with them it will be nicer.
