Hi guys. I have the Nero Suite 6.6.1.4 OEM, basically because someone gave me it! I also have 'AnyDVD'. What I'm wondering is: using Nero in conjunction with 'AnyDVD', is there a way to take from a copy-protected disc containing episodes and/or extras, just one or two episodes and/or extras that I want, and record them on a blank DVD? (I use my laptop computer's NTI CD & DVD-Maker, Edition 7, Gold, for this kind of copying.)

Thanks - Ken

Use the remake a DVD option in Nero Recode with AnyDVD running in the background.

Have patience with a Nero newbie, please. The disc in question contains five episodes of a TV series; I wanted to copy just two of them (numbers 2 and 5). Using Nero Recode, I entered Disable against everything (including extras) except the two main tracks I wanted. Then I pressed Next, specifying the recipient folder as C:\Documents and Settings\Ken\My Documents\Nero Recode. Then I pressed Burn.

But Nero appeared to burn the entire disc (five episodes).

Moreover, it gave me small indication of what to do next. (I wanted to copy the information onto a blank DVD+RW disc.) In the Nero Recode folder on my C: drive (as specified above), a whole lot of entries were listed. I couldn't see which to select, what to do with them, how to get two of them onto my blank DVD+RW disc.

Help and directions, anyone?

Thanks - Ken41

AH, I begin to see! The VOB files in the receipt folder have the individual episodes and can be played on my VLC Media Player. By playing them, I know what is on each of them. Then I can select which ones to copy by right clicking on the files concerned and selecting Copy TO DVD. The only trouble with that seems to be that I can only copy one episode per DVD+RW disc. Or is there a way to put more than one episode on a disc?

Thanks - Ken41

Oops! Something went wrong! After right-clicking on one of the VOB files in question and then selecting Copy To DVD, the copying appeared to take place - but the resultant DVD+RW disc, when played, simply displayed this legend: 'The Video Has Been Removed.' (I was expecting an episode running 25 minutes.)

What did I do wrong?

How do I do it right?!

when you hit disable, you are disabling the video stream and replacing it with that message that you are getting, thus freeing up room for less compression.

When opening up Recode choose Remake a DVD from the menu. When you click add titles, another screen will appear...under the section entitled main movie, all of your episodes will be listed. They should be listed in the order that they appear on the original disc, double click on the second title and then the fifth title, then click close (OK). You should have only the two episodes that you want on your disc displayed in your queue, click next and select your burn speed etc. and then burn.

Thanks for everything so far, LocoEng! But Nero created an additional problem this morning. I started over from scratch, inserting in the E: drive (disc tray) the same commercial disc, containing multiple episodes, as before. I had 'AnyDVD' running in the background as before, too. But when, using Nero Recode's 'Remake a DVD' function, I clicked on Import Titles, a small window opened up bearing the legend 'DVD-Video Plug-in Required' (re Dolby Digital 2-channel decoding). That didn't happen last time. I don't want to have to purchase the plug-in! Shouldn't 'AnyDVD' (a commercial product) handle the decoding referred to? And how come I was told I needed a plug-in this time but not last time? What best to do, please?

Anyone?

What version of AnyDVD are you using and what is the name of the movie?

Update to 6.6.0.18 here: http://my.afterdawn.com/locoeng/blog_entry.cfm/280

In reply ... I'm using the latest version of 'AnyDVD'. The movie is actually a series of Alfred Hitchcock TV episodes, Region 2, on multiple discs. I just wanted to put a couple of the episodes on a separate blank DVD+RW disc.

Ken41 again. Curiouser and curiouser, as someone once said. I tried using a different disc of the same set of episodes, and this time I wasn't presented with the legend about needing a plug-in.

I double-clicked on a couple of the listed episodes. That didn't SEEM to do anything, LocoEng, so I must take your word that somehow that selected those two episodes! Then I clicked on the Next button, and was told to choose a destination folder. (This time I nominated a folder for that purpose on my Desktop.) The next step would have been to hit the Burn button.

At that point I withdrew, and typed this message. (There are one or two other strange things that Nero is doing, but I'll leave those for another time.)

Comments?

Thanks - Ken41

And again it's me, to report some success. And to ask some questions of anyone who may care to answer them. (But first, my thanks to LocoEng for guidance so far.)

I switched to a different disc this time, THE CREATURE FROM THE BLACK LAGOON, which I've had kicking around here for some time. With 'AnyDVD' running in the background, and using Nero Recode, I sought to copy just one 'extra' from the disc. But these were listed by Recode as Extras 2-4, so I had to settle for that. I disabled everything else, then burned to a folder on my Desktop. (Nero appeared to burn the whole disc, though.) Afterwards I copied the contents of the folder, again using Nero, onto a blank DVD+RW disc.

It played back nicely. The three 'extras' were there. For some other tracks, the legend 'The video has been removed' appeared. But basically I'm satisfied with the result!

Now, a couple of thoughts and questions. First, I'm thinking that I may be able to copy just the one 'extra' I wanted, using the disc I've just made, onto another blank disc. But this time I'll use a stand-alone DVDR connected to a stand-alone DVD-player that are in the house here.

And here's a question. Every time I insert a new movie disc into my laptop, Nero Recode opens up unbidden. How can I stop it doing that, please?

Thanks guys - Ken41

Ken41 yet again. Nobody else around? (I'm in Australia, where it's late Sunday afternoon. I guess the rest of you are still sleeping off your Saturday night?!)

LocoEng, foolishly I didn't initially double-click on items I wanted, as you had advised, but merely DISABLED the items I DIDN"T want. Consequently, when I played back the resultant disc in my stand-alone equipment, it stopped at the window for the first item, which I had originally Disabled as not wanted, now showing the legend "The video has been removed." And the stand-alone equipment refused to go on. (So at present I can only play the disc in Windows Media Player, which lists a clickable list of tracks.)

LocoEng, will using your double-click method solve this problem?! (I'll maybe do a re-burn to see, but that will take another hour.) Any other advice?

Thanks - Ken41

Later. No, LocoEng, just initially double-clicking on certain track/s (as you suggested) doesn't appear to work. Nero goes ahead and burns everything on the disc, including on the end-result disc. (On the other hand, if one Disables unrequired tracks, the end-result may not play on stand-alone equipment, which stops at the first 'The video has been removed' legend.)

Any way around this, or do I look for another product, would you say?

My earlier question hangs unanswered, guys: every time I insert a new movie or pre-recorded disc in my computer, Nero Recode opens up unbidden (and, more often than not, unrequired!) - how to stop this happening, please?

Thanks - Ken41

Right-click on the drive icon for your CD drive, CD recorder, or DVD drive, and select Properties. Choose the AutoPlay tab, and choose the desired action for each type of CD. For example, choose Music CD, then click Select an action to perform, then select Take no action.

Here is a guide for Recode: http://forum.digital-digest.com/showthread.php?t=62235

Please keep in mind that this method and the one that I gave you earlier will not contain menus, special features etc. That is why the disc with the extras will not work. I also gave you a link to a different version of Nero, which could also prove useful.
