I currently have NEC 3540A. I like it (unless those 2-3 coasters on Taiyo Yuden were NEC's fault). But I'm building a new computer and need to know what is the current best drive for DVD burning. If possible, I also wanted the drive to be fast and have great C2 error correction with EAC ripping and have a lightscribe. If this is not possible, then I'll can get two drives. I have read good things about Benq DW1655. Is it great for DVDs? What about EAC?

The 1655 works well for me with EAC.
Edit: It's a sweet DVD burner as well...

I've got the NEC 3520a,3540a and 2 Benq dw1655's.The Benq's kick a$$ but those old NEC's are no slouches.
For the price go for the 1650 or 1655,nothing but good things said about them.
Just my 2 cents.

I have a nec 3520a and a Benq 1650 and the Benq is better. In fact newegg.com has the Benq 1650 on sale this weekend. 34.99 w/free shipping. I ordered another one for my setup. I consistently have discs that rate 97-98% with TY002 media.
Hope that helps.

Go for a benq 1655. Same as the 1650 but with lightscribe. Excellent burner and fastest dvd ripping drive I know of. It also is bitset ready.

I would consider them one of the best if not the best at the moment. They will definately give you the best bang for the buck. Make sure you dl qsuite if it doesn't come on a cd-rom with the drive. Not only are these great burners but they are also some of the fastest rippers if not fastest.
