I am looking for a new burner
I have owned numerous DVD burners in the past
Ive had Plextor, LiteOn, BenQ, NEC,
and my very first one was a Optorite.
I have never used a LG DVD burner before, it probably wont perform as well as a Plextor or a BenQ but I think I wanna give it a try anyway I hear a lot of good things about them and the people who use them swear by them. I was wondering if someone could tell me what models are the good ones and which ones i should stay away from.

Thanks in advance

You should try the LG 4167B super multi, a very good burner.

Yes, but I have the slightly older 4163B. The Double-Layer capability blew out after about a dozen burners making it a single-layer burner. I don't know whether to blame the driver or the fact I got it at newegg (everything I've ever bought there has had problems, sooner usually than later - I don't want to go any further because I know some people revere newegg like a religion). Or maybe it was just a bad burner. But seeing as I can get burners from Pioneer and others that don't have that kind of track record, I'd go with a Pioneer or Benq.

-Do you believe you own your computer and shouldn't be told what you can run and do? Then say *NO* to Microsoft Vista!
-Since half the questions here involve media problems, here ya go: Only use Verbatim or Taiyo-Yuden discs (get your TYs from Rima.com, not Supermediastore or meritline). Forget the rest, no matter what "brand" they sell under. Always burn at 4x speed regardless of the speed rating of this discs or your drive. If you have burn problems with these then you have to update your drive's firmware. For double-layer discs, only use Verbatim DVD+R DL and burn them at 2.4x speed.

the 4167B will indeed booktype. However i've had 2 4167B's and a 4163B start failing ie giving failed burns on TY discs, so now i just use two Benq DW1650's, no more LG for me apart from my main ripper drive which is a 3yr old LG 4480B dvd-rom/cdwrite combo drive which has chomped thru many 1000s of movies effortlessly & faultlessly
