Hey guys. Lately my girlfriend has been playing a legit copy of Kingdom Hearts so i have been turning my mod-chip off so she can boot it up. (i do this by holding the power button down until the system starts up). Well now i want to play some of my back ups and i can not get the PS2 to recognize them. I thought the mod-chip came back on by itself. I keep getting the efernal red screen ( please insert PS2 or PS1 media blah). If anyone has any suggestions short of cleaning the lazer, please let me know.

Its a magic 3.1. Last time i played a legit game it took a little work for the chip to recognize back ups. But this time i dont think it will fix itself.

Guys i appreciate the quick responses. Apparently i didnt clean the laser/eye good enough. I just blasted it w/ some compressed air and that did the trick. Thanks for who ever set me up with the 3.1 instructions though. They (magic 3.1) cost 19.00 dollars now. I paid 50 when they first came out. Anyways, its up and running now.

I am kinda confused about your problem. Does your PS2 freeze up? or do you just have to re-start it to get the game to work? Does it happen with every game or just some?

i just have to re-start my ps2 a lot of times for it to work and it happens with every game i burn. I download the game from a torrent site than WinRAR it to get the iso file and then i burn it using DVD Decrypter.

that would mean that your PS2 just has problems reading those discs. So you can get better media or try cleaning the laser. Possible even adjusting the laser is nothing else works.
Are the Sony DVD's made in Japan (good) or Taiwan (not so good)?
Burning an 8X DVD at 4X is the way i would do it.
Do your original games still load up fine?

the sony dvd's i have are made in taiwan and my original games load up fine.I also bought some pirated games from somewhere and they worked fine. does it matter what speed you burn the game at?I don't want to clean the laser myself because it is a bit risky and i don't know how to clean it either.
