Ok let me first say that I am new to the whole encoding/creating dvd-video/backups.
So I definitely need some pointers. I have no idea how to convert AVI files of xvid or Divx to DVD-Video files so I can put onto dvd-r or dvd+r disk. So what freeware encoding programs would you suggest that I use to convert AVI files to dvd-video files to put on dvd-r and/or dvd+r disks.

Any freeware encoding programs that will convert avi files to dvd-video files in pretty good to excellent quality?

Click the "guides" link @ the top of the screen, and find one that fits what you want to do.

Well I went to the guides section and I really didn't see what I was searching for and now after reading I see that I have to also obtain additional software programs.

I need a good ripper to circumvent the css and other encrypted algorithims so I can make dvd backups.

Most of the encoding software program I saw in the guides that can convert AVI files to mpeg-2(dvd-video)but the one freeware program listed isn't highly rated, and the rest are 30day trial versions. I don't want a trial version that I will have to pay for later. I want a freeware that is comparable to many of the paid software programs.

Can anyone assist me?

AnyDVD > all.

Not free. Everything's free. That's all I have to say about that.

www.doom9.org also has good guides.

DVD-Shrink is good for backups, but you'll have to lie and say you're not from the USA...zomg..treason...well, unless you're not from the USA. Super crazy easy, at least.

Nero Recode is my personal favorite, Recode + AnyDVD=win.

TMPGEnc can do anything you want...and it's free, but it has a learning curve. WinAVI is good as well. DVD Santa is very easy, but occasionally hiccups.

Im suprised DVD-Rebuilder isn't in this thread yet. It has to be one of the best freeware DVD programs out there. And at their site you can get version .97 or something like that for free! If you can go for the "Pro" version it is better.

extremely frustrated. I downloaded the free trial version of WinAvi and every time I try to encode I get a window that pops up and says that win AVI can't decode and would I like to download codecs? When I click yes, it just sends me to Win AVI website to purchase the program. Any other programs you guys would suggest I try please?

How about best freeware ripping software as those similar to DVD Decrypter, best audio ripping software and best encoding/decoding software available?

Is AnyDVD a good ripping software program? What is a good audio ripping program to create mp3's from cds?

Personally I believe that DVD Decrypter was the best DVD Ripper out there. But if I had to chose one now I would have to go with AnyDVD. As it blocks protections from DVD's AND CD's (think that big sony DRM rootkit fiasco). Many will say that DVDFab Decrypter can bypass the DVD protections on DVD's which is true. But its only for the DVD's not CD's and its very limited without many options. And for best Audio Ripper to .mp3, I would easily say Exact Audio Copy with the LAME encoder (with VBR enabled). Many swear by the combination of these two and I have no problem saying that I will never use iTunes to rip my cd's again.

Probably nothing except in a very roundabout fashion. For a good 1 step freeware encoding program, check out this predecessor to VSO ConvertXtoDVD: http://www.filepedia.com/video_software/dvd-r_tools/vso_divxtodvd...

Ok then what are some of the best encoding software programs to convert AVI format to dvd with good playback quality, can place multiple video files on one disk, can creat folders or menus for those different movies and merge files that are broken into two or more files?

Ok I have dvd decrypter(atleast I think I do) but can't be sure because everytime I download a file I find out later that it is just a trial version of the software I truly want.

I am thinking of getting cucusoft converter pro 7.07 for 29.95. I haven't heard anyone chat about it but I want to know if this software is anygood. It is featured on dvd-tools.com

The real DVD Decrypter by Lightning UK was free and therefore had no trial, and stopped development at version 3.5.4.0.

There are guides here on how to use DVD Decrypter.
Look at the top of the page. (any page on AD, really)
See that tab that says "Guides" ?
Click it, and look around.

Hc Encoder is a fantastic program. The only time I have used it is in conjunction with DVD-Rebuilder. I was able to fit a movie that was a little over 2 hours long onto a single layer DVD and the quality of the resulting files from HCencoder were excellent. I would highly recommend this program.

If you are looking for a DVD ripper their is another free alternative called DVDFabDecrypter available here at . . .

DVDIdle.com/free.htm" class="korostus" target="_blank">http://www.DVDIdle.com/free.htm

But if you are really interested in getting the real version (100% free) of DVD Decrypter you can still find it all over the web. The last version was 3.5.4.0 , if you cant find it on the web I am sure you can get it off BitTorrent. If not PM me and Ill find it for ya :~)
